Edwin Bell, 46

Edwin Bell, a 46-year-old black man, was shot multiple times in the head and shoulder at 860 40th Place at Menlo Avenue just south of USC at about 1 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, and died almost immediately. He had pulled his car up to a group of people on foot. One of them came over to his car window, fired into the car, and killed him, said Det. James Yoshida of the LAPD.

SICC OF IT, First of all, every hispanic or latin person is not Mexican so please don't be so ignorant as to assume that EVERYONE marching that day was both an illegal immigrant and Mexican. Not all black people are from Africa, are they? Second of all, what does that protest/march have anything to do with the homicide report or with your ability/freedom to perform your own protest? It isn't necessary to defend a freedom which isn't being denied. You're absolutely right, you can protest, flood downtown LA & McArthur Park if you so desire. The real problem you have is that people in these high crime communities aren't willing to unite in order to eliminate homicide in their neighborhoods. Rather than march in protest, you should march to unite & to encourage people to stop living in fear & to take back their communities.

I agree with the comments about protesting and marching. The residents in the community are afraid, and rightfully so, the Police have not protected us. However, let’s not be that simplistic and naive. I honestly think the community is beyond angry about the senseless violence in our neighborhoods. I think people would welcome a march or protest. Before a march is planned and implemented, residents in the community should do some individual soul searching first.

It's hypocritical for people to be outraged about the violence in the community, and you’re pounding your woman/man/children up side their head. And don't misunderstand this in relation to discipline your children, there's a need for discipline. When a parent uses violence/overly aggressive punishment, what do you think kids learn? They learn when they want people to do things their way to be overly aggressive.

In addition, fathers step up. You get no extra points, by impregnating every female you have sex with, as if some how your life’s goal is to populate the world with your seeds. You also do us all a disservice by abdicating your parental duties. I've never understood how you have a child, particularly a son, name him after you, and then you PUNK out and have nothing to do with the kid. Get real, that isn’t the business. Women, when meet a dude, who has numerous and he is not parenting any of them, keep it pushing, you’re not the exception. If not you also become part of the problem.

Being a parent was a choice I made and I take seriously. I've worked with so many young men who are angry with their fathers. This anger is then internalized, and manifest in their conduct and anti-social behavior.

I might be wrong but, I doubt that the kids whose parents have instilled values, morals, discipline, self worth and respect are the ones keeping chaos in the streets.

I'm not saying we shouldn’t do anything, but what I am saying it's not that simple, it's quite complex. And I think dialoging about it via these blogs is a start.

Next step print the blogs out and mail it the city, county and state legislatures. That can be done anonymously, if you’re unwilling to do that, check yourself.
