New crime-fighting tactic: A small cardboard box

September 6, 2007 |  8:29 am

Make_a_callLos Angeles police detectives dropped a box of their business cards (left) at the street shrine for 17-year-old homicide victim Rayvion Corsey this week. "Take a card and make a call," the note pleads.

Det. Sal LaBarbera said the hope is that mourners will be moved to call investigators and offer anonymous tips to help to bring the killers to justice.

It's yet another strategy to crack the silence that protects killers in areas with high homicide rates--a critical problem. The detectives investigating Rayvion's murder are at (213) 485-1385.
