Mariah Howard, 2

Mariah Howard, a 2-year-old black or mixed race girl, died at 7:27 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27 after being hit the previous day by her mother's boyfriend in the 1100 block of E. Bennett St., coroner's investigators said. The child appeared to have suffered acute and chronic abuse, investigators said. 

The boyfriend, suspect Randy Woods, 26, right, is at large. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Sheriff's Det. Q. Rodriguez at (323) 890-5500.

"Chronic abuse"..I hope the mother didn't know this animal was abusing her child and still remained with him..please tell me this mother didn't do everything to protect this child from this animal!!

this is horrible to hear. u never imagine that an innocent beautiful 2 yr can be the victim of a homicide. its depressing cuz that could be my niece or nephew in that situation. please if any one reads this or hears about and knows the suspect turn him in. a mother and family is now not going to see this precious child attend her first day of school or anything for that matter. how can u live with something like this. how can suspect just go on living while others are crying. its the most devasting thing there is i hope thay find this guy and that justice be served.

I just read the article abt this atrocity... The bastard that did this needs to be caught whoever knows the where abouts needs to turn him in imediately and this message is to the mother - What kind of woman are you to allow a man who based on the info provided obviously not their father and not a positive role model, hit on your kids youre a sorry excuse for a mother and woman I hope they sentence you to get your tubes tied because you dont deserve to have the chance to have any more children

k.winn go to the first posting of this story, she new he was beating those kids, i posted a comment last night because i got a phone call about a six year old that past away out here in phoenix that i new, the mother a young stupid woman let her boyfriend abuse her and her kids. well the little girl had a bad heart and she passed last night, i use to tell her why are you letting him put your babies through this,she would say i love him. every time the police would arrest him she would get him out. i couldn't believe this s**t and now the baby is dead. then my daughter ended up dateing this guy and having two children by him. she new i didn't like him so she was hiding it from me. i found out he was beating her. i couldn't do anything about that, but i could keep him away from my grandchildren, she had to choose; her children or him, and i was not having it any other way, i dont agree with all this killing that's going on out there, i'm from there from compton,122nd street between Wilmington an willow brook. but i tell you this if my daughter had let that man so much as touch one of mine; i would be in jail because i would beat her just like that baby had been beat. she new I would, i would be a hypocrite if i judged this mother with out speaking about my daughter cause that could have been my granddaughter, but ware is the father,granparent, her parent's. GOD BLESS THAT LITTLE BEAUTIFUL GIRL AND HER BROTHER. I CANT BELEAVE THIS.

I constantly read these ridiculously insensitive asinine absurd comments people make about victims of violent crimes and/or their families. These people are facing one of the most trying and difficult times of their lives. I know this personally I’ve been there.

The comment posted by “Concerned Mother” really annoyed me and proved to the readers of this blog that she's a BUFFON. She verbally assaulted this mother who is mourning the death of her two year old daughter. Without knowing little or nothing at all about this woman she’s already vilified her.

Why not extend a prayer to her and her family. If you’re unable to do that why say anything at all, it wasn’t that profound to begin with.

Better yet if you have nothing else to do, go outside and watch the grass grow. If you just have to hear your voice, pick up a book and read out LOUD, you might just learn something, but maybe you want!!!

Don’t misunderstand this, maybe this mother should do some self exploration and re-evaluate her values. But the timing and insensitivity was FOUL and wrong.

My deepest condolence and prayers are extended to the family and friends of this 2 year old angel. May God provide you and your family with direction, comfort and strength thru your mourning.

I just wanted to thank the well wishers that have given my family support at this time my heart is broken to think we will never see this precious little girls smile again, or to hear her laugh to watch her grow into the beautiful woman she would of been her other brothers and sisters will never know there sister but now our focus is on catching Randy Tremmell Woods " Hood Star" is what he calls himself from the rollin 40's gang and getting him off the streets and protecting him from future kids that he will hurt.. He has 8 other kids and the are potientaly at risk and so are everyone's else's children he just got out of jail for rape and molestation so please remember his ugly face and evil eyes he needs to be caught for all of our safety!!!!!!

I was so torn and teary eyed as i read this story! My heart goes out to the family. Most people are putting the blame on the mom but God is the one who judges! You never know what the mother was going thru because there's no way a woman in her right mind is going to let some man beat on her kids! Every needs to stop pointing fingers at her and pray for her, No one can imagine what she's going thru or been thru in her past to let something like this happen to her very own children! Leave her alone and PRAY!

If we as parents are not responsible for the people we allow into our homes and to be around our children, then who is? Look at the case that just happened in Texas, the little girl was found hung in the garage and it was the mothers boyfriend! This happens all the time, we have to do something. God is the judge, but we have to do what we can on this earth to protect the innocent.

A relative on this post mentions that this man was just ouf of jail for molestation and rape. Many women with these type of men need help themselfs. Please all of us just need to do what WE can do to stop this type of thing, so sad. I dont have anything bad to say about this mother, I know she is suffering. Please just put actions with your prayers, if you know of a dangerous situation like this, tell somebody if not the police or social services, child abuse hot lines, other relatives or a Pastor.

I could not believe this story when I first heard of it... I would first like to send my sympathy to mariah's family.. and secondly like to say I thank god this young man was captured so that he would never be able to hurt another innocent child.. And I think we as people should pray for both sides of the family and this sick young man... Lord just give us the strength to move day to day..
