Jose Magana, 57

Jose Magana, 57, a Latino man, was shot in the shoulder at 20th Street and Locust Avenue in Long Beach at about 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, and died at 10:43 a.m.

Officers were called to a shooting, according to Long Beach police, and found Magana wounded. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. He had been shot in an apparent robbery attempt, police said. The suspect, described only as a black man or youth, fled the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call Long Beach Dets. Hugo Cortes or Mark McGuire at (562) 570-7244.
