Joanne Sarkis, 32, a white woman, was stabbed multiple times at 123 W. Windsor Road in Glendale and died at 7:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27.
According to a report in the Glendale News Press, she was stabbed at the Glendale Windsor Club, a drug treatment center. A suspect, Hector Marroquin, 23, was arrested. He is suspected of stabbing her because he felt that she had snubbed him.

The death of this young lady is absolutely tragic but I would like to correct some misinformation contained in this story.
For the record, The Windsor Club is NOT a substance abuse treatment center and doesn't employ ant professional substance abuse social workers.
The Windsor Club is an Alano Club which is in actuality a social club and place where AA, Alanon, and other 12-Step Programs hold meetings. It is financed by its members. The deadly assault upon the young lady was carried out by someone attending a Narcotics Anonymous Meeting who rents space at the club to hold meetings. NA is based on the AA 12-Step
program of recovery.

Joanne (A beautiul, Middle-Eastern Woman, not white as the article mentioned) was a dear and close friend of mine since the 9th grade. I am deeply hurt and devastated at what happened. She was an awesome person and friend. She was taking classes at CSUN and was preparing to become a teacher. She was motivating and inspiring. She helped so many achieve their goals. I guess I'm motviated in writing this because I keep seeing every article about her death mentioning the "substance treatment center." I know that these are positive places, but I don't want people to think she was a junkie or something. She was anti-drugs and helped people not to use. Yes, she attended AA meetings, but it was to only to improve her life and to keep herself on the right track. She was wonderful and special to all that knew her.

Joanne Sarkis my best friend and motivator. We have been friends since the age of 14. This is so tragic for myself and everyone that loved her. Even though she never got to teach officially I did learn many wonderful things from her. She taught me to never give up no matter how hard it gets and she helped me through college. We went and got our associates degree together at PCC and those were some of the best times of my life. I miss my best friend so much. I am a very lucky person to have had such a wonderful and beautiful person in my life. She will always be missed. Love and miss her so much.

Linda R C is mistaken about one thing; middle easterners ARE white. Persians are Aryan; Arabs are Semitic, just as Hebrews are.

I am so devastaed by this whole thing. Joanne was such a big part of my life. When I had no family she was my family. Our bond was so strong not even time away from each other could break it apart. She was truly my best friend and I thank her for everything she showed me. She encouraged me to do things I thought I could not do. She was my angel since the age of 17 when I had no parental guidance. We were truly best friends. She will be missed and people that never had a chance to know her I wish they would have because they missed an angel. Love and miss u so much.
