Rafael Acosta Jr., 30, a Latino man, was shot as many as half a dozen times in the torso at about 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9. His body was found lying next to the railroad tracks near the corner of Avalon Boulevard and Bonds Street in Carson. Gunshots had been heard in the area some hours before.
Acosta had been trying, to some extent, to turn his life around, said Sheriff's Det. Angus Ferguson. He had recently gotten a job at an Alcoa plant. Detectives: (323) 890-5545 or 890-5543.

I knew this dude, he was a member of the Nitecrawlers 13 gang. They are a died out gang that was active throughout the 1990's. They were a subset of the Carson 13 Ravenna St. gang. The are where he died is in the vicinity of SS Carson 13 Realty St. Locos They are at war with Carson 13 Ravenna St. They once were cliked up but decided to go their own ways. Anyways, the sad part of this whole deal is Rafael has MANY family members that are active gangsters. I hope this doesn't lead to other deaths. I don't remember his nickname but Rafael was tattooed all over his body. That's what I remember about him most. Sad to see you leave. RIP

I would like to correct an error that jcb made in his comment regarding Rafael, if he really knew him, he would obviously know that most of his family are women, educated women that are not involved in gangs or ever were, furthermore, the males that were, I repeat WERE, have careers and are raising a family. People make mistakes, but its sad to know that because of these mistakes people assume to know who you were ,who you are and who you will become and because of this misconception it brings views of prejudicism to the way that the situation is being resolved, lack of resolution to be exact.

Rafael has been my friend for over 20 years. At one point we were together for a year and a half. The news of his death has brought so much pain in my heart. My love for him has remained since we were last together, which was 14 years ago. I've kept in contact with him over the years and we have had some deep conversations. He was a caring and loving person and I don't think alot of people had the opportunity to see that side of him. Those who knew him would agree that this world will be a little more empty without him. He liked to listen to oldies all the time. Every time he would get in my car, he would always grab the oldies CD. He had alot of favorite songs. His dedication to me was "For The Love of You" by the Isley Brothers. When I hear that song it reminds me of the great times we had together. Rafael will truly be missed and I hope that the person who committed this senseless crime has a heart and comes forward to pay for his actions. I love you Rafael!

I attended his viewing and Rosary, and for someone to say that he has active family members in Gangs is ubsurd. Apparently this person has no idea what type of family Rafael had, we understand he is trying to simply post an opinion that was better kept to himself. Rafael the couple times i met him, was very respectful, laid back guy trying to get his life together. Mom and sisters are very caring individuals who shouldnt have to endure the pain they are going trough, i believe it wasnt his time to go, he left children behind, and all he wanted was to be a father to them. My support and greatest condolescence go to his family.
