Most recent homicide map

Homicide_map_julyThe map is very slow to load these days because it has so many homicides on it--black clouds of them in some areas, such as Athens, below left.

Give it some time, and on older PCs, scroll down if you get a blank screen.

The map is still being compiled by scientist Michael Quick of USC.

Click anywhere here to view it.

Tan markers indicate homicides from the most recent weekly coroner's list; black markers indicate prior homicides. All the homicides on the map are from 2007-- about 460 of them so far, minus several dozen cases for which the determination of homicide is still in question. The county is way down so far this year in homicides, not just compared to last year, but compared to any year since about 1998.

I'm so happy to hear that homicides are way down so far this year. This coincides with the reduction in rap crap sales, serious police enaction, activist telling parents and Blacks that it is no longer acceptable to be fools and take life for stupid reasons is no longer a false sign of strength.

We still have a long way to go because 460 homicides is still way to high, especially in the Black on Black rates.

Keep up all the good work, we will not stop until this number reduces by 90 percent. We all must continue to do more of the same and triple our efforts to move this number down faster with long lasting results.

This map is very very sad to read, life has very small value in `city of angles`
Wake up California and get rid of guns they dont work for anyone,
I will pray for all of each black spot on this map ,

If this is a good year with homicides down compared to earlier years, I would hate to see what this blog and Mike Quick's map would have looked like in 1992.
