Jerasmo Pena, 26

Jerasmo Pena, 26, a Latino man, was struck multiple times by gunfire at 4426 S. Avalon Blvd. in South-Central Los Angeles on Sunday, July 8.

He Pena_cracked_crucifix_2was taken to California Hospital Medical Center, where he died at 1:52 a.m.

According to police, Pena was riding his bicycle to his job as a handyman at a bar when he was struck by gunfire. He was from Mexico and had no criminal record.

Anyone with information is asked to call Newton homicide detectives at (323) 846-6556.

Update: LAPD Newton detectives have cleared this case. A suspect is in custody.
