On Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, The Times launched a new version of the Homicide Report. You have arrived at the old blog.

Readers can no longer post new comments on this site, but we encourage you to join the conversation on our new site. The updated Homicide Report features an interactive map and searchable database of the more than 2,600 homicides in L.A. County since January 2007, when Times' reporter Jill Leovy first started this blog with the goal of covering each one.

Comments prior to Jan. 26 will, at least for now, remain archived here, with links provided in the new database.

If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail homicidereport@latimes.com, and we will do our best to respond.

I cant understand why race is always so important in the stories, can someone tell me?

Im actually glad they keep race mentioned. It lets me never forget the violence that eats away all of our people. Sad. Truly Sad Stuff.

It's important because 95% of the victims in the LA Times Homicide Blog are non-white. Maybe LAPD should look into that. Unless they are too busy solving only crimes that create revenue for the city.

It is not just LAPD that may need to look into this. This blog project lists homicides in Los Angeles County which is comprised of Los Angeles, 87 other incorporated cities (some with their own police force), and several unincorporated regions. Those unincorporated regions and those cities that don't have their own police force contract with the LA Sherrif Department. The article that you have posted under is for a region that is covered by the Compton or Lennox Division of the LASD.

Hello,

You ask whey race is mentioned. There are very few white gang members and when they are killed it is becuase of their race. Quite often persons of color are killed by persons of color because of yes, because of thier race. When the race of the purpetrator is known it is often publishe. The subject is much to volitile and purposely over looked for these very reasons. We must assumed that a crime has been reported. What the public needs to know has been publicished is order to help solve the crime. I am a sober alcoholic. Alcohol was my solution to life. Now it's not. To a psychopath, murder is the solution to life's problems. Unless we can change the thinking of the psychopath we'll continue to have to deal with him/her.
