Note the emerging dark cloud of homicides around Athens just north of the 105 Freeway and west of 110. This unincorporated area falls in sheriff’s territory. It has seen one of the regions most significant homicide spikes this year, even as homicide numbers are decreasing in other areas, such as downtown Los Angeles.
