Jeremy Howard, 20

May 30, 2007 |  4:26 pm

Howard_jeremy_fullerJeremy Howard, 20, a black man, was shot in the back in the 6600 block of Myrrh Street in Paramount, and died at 9:18 p.m. Saturday, May 26.

He had attended a prom or pre-graduation party thrown by two sisters in the 6600 block of Myrrh Street in Paramount on Saturday evening at about 8 p.m. Howard had quarreled with some people at the party, and opted to walk away. He was leaving when the suspects, described as 18- to 20-year-old black young men, got in their car and drove past him as he moved toward his car, firing multiple shots at him. He was struck and killed. The assailants fled in what may have been an older-style Honda. Anyone with any tips or information is asked to call investigators at (323) 890-5500.

it dident have 2 happen tha way it did i was there when he got shot i was right in front of him he hit tha ground and i ran over 2 him and he said he was ok and start 2 laff and wanted 2get in his car and leav ...6 houres later he was dead

thay say everone has 2 go some day but his came sooner then expected i was there when he got shot i ran up 2 him and he said he was ok and asked where his keys were and started laughing and told me he is gone be ok.. 6 hours later he died

I DONT THINK DOCTORS AND AMBULANCE TAKE THING AS SERIOUS AS THEY SHOULD AND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE... 6 HRS IS A VERY LONG TIME... AND IF HE HAD ENOUGHT TIME TO SIT AND LAUGH THY SHOULD OF HAD ENOUGH TIME TO DO WHAT THEY REALLY HAD TO DO AND SAVE HIM..
RIIP JERM. A LOT OF PEOPLE LOVE AND MISS YOU.. SAVE US A SPOT

This is so sad and senseless, another young black murdered for nothing. He walked away from the problem and was still gunned down. Now another family will be grieving for another life lost. I feel sorry for his parents. It goes on and on without any end in sight.

Why, why do Black young men continue to kill each other? These same men will be joining other protesters against police brutality but will kill their own brother over a perceived insult. My heart just aches for these families as the mother and father continue to bury their loved ones!!!

LA will be Baghdad soon at this rate. there's no diff between armed thugs shooting a brother over words, and crazed militants blowing up people over religion. if it wasn't black on black the media would be going nuts, but killin each other? 'nuther day, 'nuther body.

Being the father of a 17 year old african american male this particular story really hits home for me. It realizes one of my worst fears, this young man obviously realized the best way to handle this situation was for him to leave and avoid the situation escalating (which is exactly what I have taught my son to do) however the young man or men whom he argued with would not accept this.....Someone walks or drives up and askes "Where are you from?" you answer "I'm not from anywhere I don't bang" and they shoot you anyway (why even ask)......you can't win. You do the right thing by walking away, you give the right answer about gangbanging and it means nothing. Please pray for our young people who don't realize that even though law enforcement may not catch them, God see's all and one day them will have to answer for all of their deeds. I did not know Jeremy, however I have been praying for his family as well as the youngmen who did this. Wakeup young people and realize we are commiting genocide against our won race.

This was really senseless. He walks away and they considered him dissin, you argue with them they considered it dissin. What in the hell are we suppose to do? Young Black and Hispanic men just don't understand what they are inflicting on the families of people that they are shooting and murdering. Why don't we set up a special prison for them like Iraq and ship them there. Let them see and feel what its like to run and hide and hear gunfire 24/7 not knowing whether they are going to survive or die. These people families are to be ashamed of themselves knowing that their sons, father, husbands, brothers are out there taking lives. I know I couldn't live knowing that a murderer was near me.

the blog is in accurate. he couldnt have attended the party at 8pm and then ascended to his next life at 9:18pm if he was shot and then died six hours later. If he died six hours later, as charles said, then his ascention would have been around 3 a.m then next day and not 9:18 p.m the evening before. the homicide chronicles must be bullshit. journalist are supposed to dig, aren't we? rest in power jeremy. i miss you man!

He was too young to die..is what many people said. I being only 18 years old myself agree. A young 20 year old black man shot and killed after walking away from a fight. Now his parents, family and friends are left to mourn and grieve over his death. When will the senseless violence end..when will black america wake up and realize that violence is not the answer. Hopefully soon because if not this downward spiral will continue and I'd hate to see what the state of black america will be like years from now. I too mourn over the loss of my cousin Jeremy Howard. I loved him dearly and I miss him so much!!! But we will meet again some day!!! RIP Jeremy, we love you and can't wait to see you again!
