Joel Martinez, 16, a Latino youth, was found lying in the street, dead from a gunshot wound, near the intersection of 2nd and Emerald streets. The location was in the LAPD’s Rampart division, in the vicinity of LAUSD’s new high school just east of downtown Los Angeles.

A passerby who had parked his car nearby overnight found Martinez in the early afternoon of Monday, April 9. The passerby thought Martinez might have been sleeping in the roadway, and went to wake him up. Then he saw blood on his body and realized he was dead. Police believe he was shot Easter evening, but Martinez’s time of death was listed as 1:10 p.m. Anyone with any information is asked to call investigators at (213) 207-2060.
