On Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, The Times launched a new version of the Homicide Report. You have arrived at the old blog.

Readers can no longer post new comments on this site, but we encourage you to join the conversation on our new site. The updated Homicide Report features an interactive map and searchable database of the more than 2,600 homicides in L.A. County since January 2007, when Times' reporter Jill Leovy first started this blog with the goal of covering each one.

Comments prior to Jan. 26 will, at least for now, remain archived here, with links provided in the new database.

If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail homicidereport@latimes.com, and we will do our best to respond.

Danny Saavedra, 16

March 14, 2007 |  3:41 pm

Danny Saavedra, a 16-year-old Latino boy, was shot in the 500 block of 82nd Street in South-Central Los Angeles about 8:25 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, and survived on life support until 11:40 a.m. Saturday, March 10. He had been playing basketball in the street when his assailants drove by and shot at him in what police described as a gang-related attack. Afterward, officers from LAPD's 77th Street Division pursued a vehicle matching the description of the one used in the killing. Two teenage Latino boys got out, the officers followed on foot and caught them.

* Update: Charges followed. Case is cleared.

this was a guy that i knew for a very long time. i know that hes in a better place and hope we get justice.it feels like it was berily yesturday.

Danny was a great person. I first met him in 2002, because we both attended the same junior high school. For him to go out like this is truly a tragedy. Not only will his friends and family miss him dearly, but also his very own community. Violence in South LA needs to stop now, the powers that be need to take in to consideration that if something isn't done immediately, then South LA will never progress from the total chaos it is in right now. I send my deepest condolences to Danny and his family as well as his friends. He was a good guy, and he will be dearly missed. I love you Danny, and I'm sure we will be together again sometime in the future.

Rest In Peace!!!

WE MISS YOU DANNY ALWAYS AND FOREVER
GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN
