Orange County Homicides

Beginning this week, the Homicide Report will list homicides from Orange County each week, in addition to those from Los Angeles County.

Orange County has only a fraction of Los Angeles County's per-capita homicide rate, and vastly fewer homicides are committed there than in Los Angeles County. This week there is only one entry on the list. Click below to view.

Tom Egan, a 40-year-old white man, was fatally shot in the torso Friday morning when he confronted a man robbing a cashier at a Home Depot store at 2782 El Camino Real in Tustin.

Egan, an assistant manager at the store, was a married father of two and retired Marine sergeant. The suspect was described as 6 feet tall and wearing a painter's jumpsuit and dust mask. He was aided by a getaway driver and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. Previous LAT story.

Update: Police arrested parolee Jason Russell Richardson, 36, on Feb. 22 in connection to this homicide. LAT story

Such a beautiful family. So much heartache. I lost my brother to the same kind of senseless murder. Know that as time goes by, it gets a little bit easier to cope. God bless you.

Anything the Times can do to help the family would be appreciated. As for a news topic, why not discuss why we don't monitor criminals? We have the GPS technology to do it, and with "early release" a fact of the criminal justice system, why not monitor these guys? Richardson was a criminal. As a counselor, it's just not that hard to diagnose an Anti-Social Personality. He was going to commit more crimes and hurt people. That’s what he does. Are we so concerned with perpetrators rights that we can’t see the forest through the trees? Tag em and bag em, or at least tag em and watch em! Please help out here…

this is horrifying. please let the cops catch these scumbags.
