California Look: Planters by Greenform, Haskell and Pad

Pod version 1.0 Relax Trapa collection

What is the California look? For the next two weeks, we're asking you to vote in our California Look 2011 contest, picking winners in various categories of home decor that suit the forward-thinking, Earth-loving, indoor-outdoor lifestyle of the Golden State.

We've tried to choose nominees that have been designed or fabricated in California. Ultimately your votes will determine the winners, and your comments will be the basis for an upcoming story. Read our kickoff post from Monday, and check for new categories daily.

Round 1: Planters

And the nominees are ...

A. Pod version 1.0 by Pad Outdoor, top left. Pod premiered on L.A. at Home in June 2009 and has been popping up in store windows, living rooms and backyard patios ever since. It comes in a variety of shapes and colors with a choice of stands.

B. Relax from Greenform, center. This human-shaped container, from a Swiss firm that makes some of its fiber-cement pieces here in Southern California, is about 6 feet long and weighs a total of 36 pounds. The planter is 5 inches deep, suitable for grass, flowers, herbs and, of course, low-water succulents.

C. The Trapa collection by the Haskell Collection, right. Andrew Stoneman and Laura Haskell's design, featured on L.A. at Home last week, is made from recycled aluminum. The geometric pots come in two sizes and can be paired with 12- or 24-inch-tall steel stands.

Which of these designs do you think captures the spirit of home and garden design today? Vote below, share your comments and check for a new daily poll as we define the California Look 2011.
