Outdoor kitchen gets its first dishwasher

Outdoor-dishwasher Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet, a high-end outdoor kitchen equipment company, introduced what it says is the first dishwasher designed for outdoor kitchens.

The Kalamazoo outdoor dishwasher, which costs $4,990, is meant to further the push for true indoor-outdoor living.

“We want you to be able to use this as a primary kitchen,” said Russ Faulk, Kalamazoo’s vice president of product development.

You can read the full article on the outdoor dishwasher and what one market research firm estimated to be more than 1 million homes with an outdoor kitchen -- grill, refrigerator, sink and storage.

The prices for some of these outdoor appliances seem ridiculously expensive to me, and are clearly a case of people having more money than they know what to do with. It would seem a lot more pragmatic to locate such fixtures below a rainproof structure outdoors, and use an indoor model of stainless steel dishwasher if you absolutely need this convenience outdoors. Myself, I'd rather use that money for more important things in a garden design than this...
