Times Past: Side effects include loss of judgment ...

From the Los Angeles Times archives: Home magazine, Nov. 27, 1977

"Placebos Can Help You"? The headline could have just as well said, "For $3, We'll Help You Act Like a Fool." The bottle of 30 harmless pills, advertised before the holidays, could help you "build your image as over-stressed exec or super-sensitive intellectual" -- at a time when, apparently, people aspired to such things. Satisfied with your life? The ad suggests that the pills might have found a happy home with the hypochondriac in your life.
