Hollywood Hills couple tame their garden slope

It's a problem for many in Los Angeles: how to handle the steeply sloped garden. At a loss of what to do, Amy and David Messinger called landscape designer Joan Grabel of Park Slope Design to help them come up with a solution. Her game plan?

"I treated the slope like bleachers in a class picture, where you get to see everybody," Grabel tells writer Emily Young. "I used some plants that were the same height but not on the same plane."
