Mohawk General Store, Amsterdam Modern open in Silver Lake

Sunset Boulevard now has three well-known design stores leasing larger spaces. In June, Bebop Design moved from a sleepy spot on Rowena Avenue to a space that's twice as large at 4006 Santa Monica Blvd. at Sunset Junction. Danish Modern quadrupled its square footage, moving a bit east to 3028 W. Sunset Blvd.

The latest arrival is Mohawk General Store, above, which two weeks ago moved from a side street in Echo Park to 4011 W. Sunset Blvd. The apparel and accessories store has teamed up with Amsterdam Modern, the first retail venture for Ellen LeComte, who operates a by-appointment Van Nuys warehouse filled with midcentury furniture and 20th-century Dutch designs.

The result is a one-stop shop for modernist fans, where you can pick up a pair of Generic Man shoes by L.A. footwear designer Kevin Carney, who owns Mohawk General Store, and buy the display table or wall unit as well.

The store carries contemporary housewares including scented bougies ($75) from Cire Trudon, candle maker to Louis XIV, and adjustable, articulated desk lamps ($465), right, newly produced from a 1950s design by the French lighting manufacturer Jielde.

The vintage goods -- American, Dutch and Danish -- are attractively priced. The freshly upholstered metal legged stools, far right, are $55 each; metal pendant lights start at $250.

So my comment was deleted but David Keeps emails me. I think a frank exchange between reader and writer is important.

Here's what I wrote

"AS the author of the blog post, I wanted to let you know that I do not consider $465 to be attractively priced. I don't think it is either. The "attractively priced" reference was to $55 vintage stools. See below:

Okay. So it's the vintage, aka used, stuff isn't as expensive.

But I'd far rather see stories and blog posts about how to keep a home cheerful and attractive without having to spend a lot of money.

Those sorts of stories are far harder to do than knocking out a blog post from a PR email. But I think the readers deserve it. And I think comments should be posted, rather than turning into a email snipe-fest between a reader and a writer.

Actually, Bo is correct and Mr. Keeps is wrong.

Mr. Keeps responded to Bo that "The "attractively priced" reference was to $55 vintage stools..."

However, in the article itself, Mr. Keeps wrote that the "The vintage goods -- American, Dutch and Danish -- are attractively priced."

Clearly he is stating that the AMERICAN vintage goods, the DUTCH vintage goods and the DANISH vintage goods are attractively priced.

Unless the $55 stools are somehow manufactured in 3 different countries, he is referencing ALL the vintage items made in those 3 countries.
