After requests from clients, the Venice flower shop Floral Art will begin teaching floral design classes starting this Thursday.

‘So many of our designs are simple and streamlined, but they are not so easy to make,’ owner and designer Jennifer McGarigle says. ‘We’re going to share some tricks of the trade -- what flowers are in season, what vases work well and how that translates into something you can do for yourself.’

The classes will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. once a month. The class Thursday will focus on centerpieces, tabletop decor and edible flowers. Future classes carry titles such as ‘Simple Modern Masterpieces,’ ‘Rose Inspirations,’ ‘Bulb Bliss,’ ‘The Modern Wreath’ and ‘Holiday Entertaining on a Budget.’

McGarigle says the classes are about more than just making arrangements. ‘We want to inspire people to see how flowers can be used in other ways,’ she says. ‘You can bring them in to your life in different ways.’

Each class is $150, and participants will go home with the kind of arrangement Floral Art would sell for $125. The event also includes refreshments. To register, call (310) 392-1633.
