The recently opened Exotic Pebbles garden center in Redondo Beach is like a jewelry shop of rocks. Imported stones with names such as Snow White, Black Ash and Sea Green are shown outside in garden settings, where the stones are presented in graphic patterns or more organic arrangements. Inside the 500-square-foot store, the stones can be seen up close in wooden display cases, and mounted photos of rock gardens offer more inspiration.

Located in what had been a drive-through latte stand, Exotic Pebbles is the only retail location for an Arizona-based wholesale company that specializes in polished and unpolished pebbles sourced from Asia. Although the rock colors include striking reds, golds, greens and even a fashionably subtle camel tone, none of them is chemically treated.

Choices range from bean-sized specimens to 4-inch-wide stones, and they come in 5-pound bags ($6 for most varieties) up to 50-pounders ($29 for most selections). Pebble doormats ($35 and up) and volcanic-rock sculptures, pots and lanterns are also available. The company offers free delivery to certain areas.

Exotic Pebbles is open Monday through Saturday at 420 N. Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach; (310) 937-9000.
