Tuesday: The landmark Gamble House hosts a weekly lunch-hour program that takes advantage of the warmer weather. Visitors are invited to bring their lunch and picnic on the rear lawn or terrace between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 23. Tuesday: Landscape designer Daxin Liu will present an illustrated lecture on the gardens of Suzhou, China. Liu will focus on design principles and techniques that can be incorporated into California gardens. 7:30 p.m. Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens, 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino. Thursday: The Sherman Library and Gardens Volunteer Assn. presents its 14th annual garden tour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Seven local gardens and the library’s California Impressionist art collection will be on view. The gardens will also host free admission in honor of National Public Gardens Day on Friday.

Thursday: Landscape architect Bob Perry discusses ‘Landscapes of Vision and Experience,’ a tribute to public and private gardens in Southern California. Friday: This year’s self-guided Laguna Beach Garden Tour will feature seven private gardens in Woods Cove, one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. $35. Advance tickets only: www.lagunabeachgardenclub.org.

Friday: National Public Gardens Day, an annual celebration of the nation’s public gardens, will feature local events: The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden is offering docent-led walking tours at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The tours are included with regular admission of $3 to $8; meet at the rotunda. The Getty Center in Brentwood (photo at top) and Getty Villa in Malibu are offering special 45-minute tours of gardens led by the professionals who manage them. The Getty Gardener’s Perspective tours will be offered at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Getty Center, and 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the Getty Villa. Admission is free; parking $15. Saturday: The Garden Conservancy’s Open Days tour for Los Angeles covers seven homes in the Windsor Square area. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to each garden is $5. Saturday: Landscape architect and contractor Owen Dell, author of ‘Sustainable Landscaping for Dummies,’ discusses new options for turf areas. Dell will cover ways to remove an old lawn, alternative low-maintenance meadows, organic lawn-care tricks and tips on installing irrigation. 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Calvary Christian Fellowship Church, 4221 E. Saturday: The Orange County chapter of the California Native Plant Society will host a native plant garden tour featuring a dozen gardens in Fullerton, Tustin, Corona del Mar and Santa Ana. Free.
