People who are unhappy with their home may not know how to begin to make it better. “They just can’t initiate it,” says designer Erin Ellwood, who jokingly calls herself a “spatial therapist.”

“People can’t see that their stuff is weighing them down. They just need someone to help them get started.’

Hiring an interior designer is not an option for everyone, so Ellwood created the Lone Arranger, a low-cost room redecorating service that focuses on arranging what you already own in a more palatable and functional way. ‘I wanted to appeal to the demographic of people that would never have the courage or the finances to call an interior designer,’ she says.

For $100 per room, indoor or outdoor, Ellwood will move furniture, hang artwork or help to choose paint colors, rugs and fabrics. She will also advise you on what needs to go. ‘I have been known to take a couch or two out to the curb,’ she says. And after more than 20 years designing and decorating sets for television and film, Ellwood says that she can turn a room around in just a few hours with the help of the client.
