The Deal: Live Style Designs in Venice
adds samples and overstock to store

April 27, 2010 |  7:40 am

For 20 years, Francesca Messina DeShae has designed and imported teak and suar wood tables, silk bedding and decorative accessories. Now the owner of Live Style Designs' retail store has taken on another title. "I'm the queen of closeouts," she says.

DeShae buys trade-show samples and overstock directly from popular home decor manufacturers such as Thomas Paul and Los Angeles lighting designers Jamie Young and Cindy Cisnowski to add to her Venice Beach store. For instance, Live Style Designs is selling the Thomas Paul linen ostrich print pillow, above right, normally $200, for $125. The raffia lantern pendant light by Cisnowski, above left, is $450 instead of the usual $900. These are everyday prices, not sale specials.

Christophuras Live Style Designs, which wholesales its own Indonesian-manufactured pieces to home decor stores across the country, also offers deep discounts on its own merchandise. Among the finds: coffee and dining tables, right, designed by DeShae and made from two-toned suar wood that normally retail for $400 to $6,000 are $200 to $2,800.

The shop recently opened a garden center with pottery and outdoor furniture as well.
