The Deal: Fatboy bean bags on sale at Gilt

When it comes to buying furniture for children, these are the kinds of descriptions that parents like to hear: ‘Velcro closure over a metal locked zipper.’ ‘Dirt and moisture repellent.’ ‘To clean, wipe with lukewarm water and mild soap.’

Another detail that will make parents reach for their wallets? Sale prices. This lime green Island bean bag chair from Dutch designer Fatboy is nearly half off through Monday. Normally $229, the nylon chair is now on sale for $120 through the online retailer Gilt Groupe. The chair measures 50 by 40 inches and weighs 22 pounds. A variety of other styles -- including Marimekko designs -- also are on sale. All purchases are final, and items are not returnable.

You have to become a member of Gilt Groupe, but membership is free and once you join you can receive daily notices on home decor, women’s fashion, men’s clothing and more. Sales begin at 9 a.m. and don’t last long; items often sell out. A colleague here recently tried to sign up and got annoyed by a delay in access to the site, but the good news is, once you’re in, you’re in.
