Garden gifts from the Los Angeles Arboretum

February 3, 2010 |  7:54 am

No trip to see the horticultural wonders at the Los Angeles County Arboretum is complete without a stop in the Garden & Gift Shop to peruse the latest botanic-themed products.

Manager Marc Hall stocks everything from plants and postcards to peacock feathers. There is a nice selection of nature and environmental books, toys and projects for kids.  If it’s too sunny out, you can buy a hat and a cold drink. Hall and his staff change the displays with the seasons, and this time of year there are tables arranged around Valentine’s Day, with lavender-themed products and items for the bird lover.

After the jump, check out the Arboretum’s new gift items inspired by nature.

Take a moment to meditate when you light the three votives contained inside sections of a 2-by-14-inch wooden tray by Melrose International, above. Three other sections contain pebbles, seeds and shells.  $9.75.

Perch a winsome cast-iron bird, mounted on a faux stone, where you can enjoy it, indoors or out. Also by Melrose International. $19.95.

Hang a cast-iron wall bracket and insert a 6-inch terra-cotta flower pot into the ring. The weathered iron bracket comes in single ($16.95) or trio ($39.95) sizes.

The Arboretum Garden & Gift Shop, 301 N. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia; (626) 447- 8751 or www.arboretum.org.
Open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. The shop is run by the Arboretum Foundation, and all profits fund programs of the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden. Arboretum members enjoy a 10% discount on all purchases.
