The Deal: Eames coffee-table knockoffs

At $229.99, the Eames-inspired Eliptikal coffee table on the left from Lunar Lounge Design was already a deal. Now, the Canadian manufacturer has reduced the price to $179.99 for a limited time, with shipping estimated at $62.99. The handcrafted table is 54 inches long and 23 inches wide, and it comes either 12 or 14 inches high. Removable steel legs come in a chrome or semi-flat black finish. The medium-density fiberboard tabletop comes in white, gray, black, red, eggshell, blue, brown, orange or pink.

I also came across Advanced Interior Designs, which had lowered the price on its knockoff, above right, to $375 from $550. The estimated shipping charge was $100. This table is longer (71 inches) and lower (10 inches off the ground), and it has a chrome steel base. The birch plywood and melamine top comes in white or black.

Curious, I went looking for the original Eames Elliptical table. The 89-inch-long ‘surfboard’ design is $649 (plus $75 shipping) at the Eames Office online store.
