This week in the Home section ...

*David A. Keeps takes a look at the recently redone home of Ryan Brown of ‘Flipping Out’ in the Hollywood Hills. It’s a mash-up of a bunch of different styles and totally done. Take a tour of the house, and read Brown’s tips on when to scrimp and when to splurge.

*Car critic Dan Neil takes a tour of a very fancy garage in Brentwood. Readers who have already seen the photo gallery online have compared this garage to the one in ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.’ Not a bad comparison, but Cameron’s dad didn’t have a couch in his garage. Or a flat-screen TV.

*Staff writer Martha Groves visits Ron Frank, whose father was co-founder of the Long Beach furniture store Frank Bros. -- the same company that was called upon to furnish the Case Study houses back in the day. Ron Frank carried on his father’s legacy. You can see Frank’s home and read why the Frank Bros. archives, recently donated to the Getty, fill out the story of midcentury design.
