The Los Angeles Conservancy, the largest membership-based local preservation organization in the country, is offering its last four sunset walking tours of downtown for the summer. On Aug. 19, a tour of Little Tokyo will cover the culture and history of what was once the heart of the largest Japanese community in the United States. (The photo above is of the neighborhood’s Far East Building, a 2004 recipient of an L.A. Conservancy preservation award.) On Aug. 26, another tour will explore City Hall. On Aug. 19 and 26, the conservancy also will lead an in-depth look at Union Station, the last great railway station to be built in America.

Here’s a chance to take an early evening stroll and learn more about your city. At dusk, the area takes on a heavenly glow befitting a City of Angels. Tickets ($5 to $10) and reservations are required. Meeting locations will be e-mailed with confirmation of ticket purchase. Tours start at 5:30, last 1 hour and 45 minutes and cover about 1.5 miles. (Tours are wheelchair accessible, but please notify the office in advance.)
