Today, Times writer P.J. Huffstutter reports on the escalating chicken wars going on throughout the country. Growing legions of urban farmers want permission to keep hens in their backyard, but regular city folk who have not jumped on the grow-your-own bandwagon say they don’t live in rural areas for a reason.

It seems that Times reporters cannot get enough of the backyard chicken phenomenon. (I know I can’t!) We’ve had at least four stories on urban chicken farming in the last year.

We have a complete list after the jump.

The Home section’s Realist Idealist columnist, Susan Carpenter, wrote about her adventures in chicken rearing, which turned out to be not as intuitive (or inexpensive) as she originally hoped.

Times staffer Jessica Garrison wrote about the influx of chickens in South Los Angeles.

And you can read my story on the hows and whys of keeping chickens in Los Angeles here.
