COMIC-CON 2010: ‘Nikita’ debuts and Maggie Q says ‘Dudes are gonna love it!’

Though she was referring mainly to a catfight between Lyndsy Fonseca and another woman on the show when she said “Dudes are gonna love it,” Maggie Q could have been talking about her new CW show, “Nikita,” which showed to a more-than-packed house at Comic-Con tonight.
The new show, which debuts September 9, hews more closely to director Luc Besson’s 1990 French film “La Femme Nikita” than the 1997 USA Network show starring Peta Wilson, about a woman who worked for a shadow government agency that she later tries to topple.
It’s also reminiscent of J.J. Abrams’ Jennifer Garner spy series, “Alias,” but series creator Craig Silverstein wants to be clear: “There will be no Rimbaldi” prophecies and the like.
Silverstein, along with Fonseca and Maggie Q, took questions after screening the series’ debut episode, and one of the first subjects to come up in the conversation was a skimpy red bikini worn by Maggie Q.
“When I first saw it, I said, ‘Oh, no. Do I really have to be that girl? Can we do a nice one-piece?’ ” said Maggie Q, receiving lots of applause from the crowd. “Then on the day of shooting, they hand me this thing. I was like ‘That’s not a one-piece! That’s a two-piece with a bit of string attached!’ ”
Fonseca continued: “Yeah, I couldn’t get it out of my mind either.”
Maggie Q and Fonseca were very complimentary toward one another when it came to the martial-arts and firearms training they had to endure. Maggie Q called Fonseca “annoying” because “she’s good at everything.”
Maggie Q, a fan of the original film, was also grateful to be cast as an Asian actress in the role. “I am not the typical choice for this [and] am glad to be able to represent a group of people who are underrepresented [on screen],” she said.
Tying the show even further into Comic-Con, Silverstein believes that people will enjoy it because “it’s Jason Bourne type of stuff. It’s ‘Nikita’ by way of ‘Batman Beyond.’ ”
