DC Comics zap into Apple iTunes, Sony’s PlayStation Portable

Digital comic nerds, rejoice!
DC Comics, the publisher of Superman and Batman, on Wednesday released free apps for Apple’s iPhones and iPads. In addition, DC Comics said it struck a deal with Sony to distribute comics on the PlayStation Portable game console, starting with 80 titles.
The apps are essentially gateways for readers to buy digital editions of DC’s comic books, priced between 99 cents and $2.99 an issue.
‘We see digital as an opportunity to grow our entire business,’ said DC Comics co-publisher Jim Lee.
Other comic book publishers also have looked to digital channels to help reverse a precipitous decline in sales over the last decade. Marvel last year launched its own digital comic book reader for iPhone and the PSP.
