DreamWorks is on a roll with animated films -- ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ has been a word-of-mouth hit (and deservedly so) and ‘Shrek Forever’ has gotten high marks from moviegoers even if its opening-weekend numbers were clearly disappointing (it will be interesting to see if it can bounce back a bit; a bit of good news is the fact that early projections say it will finish ahead of ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ in its opening weekend). Even if the ogre can’t pile up the box-office green like he used to, the movie is clearly superior to the last ‘Shrek’ film and sends that franchise off with its humor mojo restored.

Will ‘Megamind’ add to the success story? Brad Pitt plays a superhero and Will Ferrell is the supervillain in the farce, and when I saw the trailer at a matinee of ‘Shrek Forever’ the crowd responded favorably -- except for my wife, who was dejected by the prospect of wasting Pitt’s time on a role where his abs are not on screen. ‘I don’t want to hear Brad Pitt, I want to see him,’ she muttered into her popcorn.
