Comic-Con: Peter Jackson says a 'Hobbit' script is 3-4 weeks away

July 24, 2009 |  5:14 pm

Peter_jackson_comic2 Peter Jackson is making his first-ever Comic-Con trip to draw attention to the alien invasion thriller "District 9," a film he produced but did not direct. He even took a few pictures of the crowd. ("Smile at the back, please. Smile! Now we have to do it again.")

But first, Jackson would like to give you an update on "The Hobbit." It's early stages still, folks.

He's about three to four weeks away from turning in a draft of the script to Warner Bros. Antsy fans can take action if they want, he joked. "You could drop Warner Bros. a line and encourage them to be kind to us."

As the film has not yet been officially greenlit, Jackson said you can also ignore all those casting rumors. "Literally, honestly, we have not offered anyone a role in the film."

Even without a greenlight, the director went on to say "The Hobbit" would be two films.

To hear all about "District 9," directed by Neill Blomkamp, check out Gina McIntyre's report from Thursday's secret screening and her interview with Peter Jackson.
