Robert Pattinson on his 'Twilight' songs: 'Music is my backup plan if acting fails'
EXCLUSIVE
Heartthrob Robert Pattinson not only stars in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire romance, “Twilight,” out Nov. 21, he's contributed two songs to the film, one of which, “Never Think” will be included on the official soundtrack.
But the self-effacing Brit insists that the songs’ inclusion was wholly accidental; a mysterious third party slipped director Catherine Hardwicke a copy of his recordings without his knowledge and she opted to include them, surprising Pattinson when he turned up to see some early footage.
“When I went to see the cut,” Pattinson said during an interview Wednesday afternoon, “she’d put these two songs in. They’re old songs, but one of them specifically, it really made the scene better. It was like it was supposed to be there. It’s strange because what was supposed to be at that point in the movie was a big orchestral film climax. Instead it’s this little song with acoustic guitar. I’m singing it, maybe that makes it different, but it’s kind of overwhelming. I hope it’s overwhelming.”
Although many actors try to work in film and television while juggling careers in the pop arena, Pattinson insists he won’t be one of them. “That’s what I was scared about, it looks like I’m trying to get a music career out of it or something,” he said. “I’ve never really recorded anything -- I just played in pubs and stuff –- and I really didn’t want it to look like I was trying to cash in. I hope it doesn’t come across as that. I’m not going to be doing any music videos or anything. Music is my backup plan if acting fails. I don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket.”
Judging from the level of anticipation surrounding his first major starring vehicle, he might not have too much to worry about. On the music front, though, Pattinson will be sharing the soundtrack's track listing with Linkin Park, Muse, Paramore, Iron & Wine and Perry Farrell, among others.

I am so happy for Rob as it is great to see real solid talent with so much humility. He needs to come to our home state of Texas to the music capital of Austin as our whole office guys and girls would love to hear more. We appreciate the deep folksy tone much like our beloved Pat Green.
Congratulations to him and the great young actors of Twilight. I look forward to seeing Catherine Hardwikce at Oscar time with Rob and Kristen. Much success!

Can I be cheeky and ask that you do another interview with Rob and ask him if the film Parts per Billion is still going ahead with him. The film sounded very good. We want to know what his future plans are. Shame Ryan Reynolds is playing The Green Lantern. Rob would be awesome in the role. Love him to play Troy in Far From the Madding Crowd.

I think Rob is a very talented and unique actor. I believe his acting career is just beginning. He is also a very talented musician, I've heard a couple of his songs with him singing at the nightclub.

Your fans love you Rob- not only for your acting AND your music, but for your sarcastic wit, your modesty, and your character.
Oh, and your pretty damn handsome too. I was going to TRY not to bring that up, but it slipped :)

Thanks for that interview!
Though I guess that means that he will not publish an album or something like that in the near future, which is truly disappointing!
More Rob please!!!

One thing comes across in articles on Rob. His fans really do know about his career and see how talented he is. You might think they only see him as Edward but it isnt so. He has developed a large loyal fanbase. I hope producers take not of that and let him audition for some of the key roles in Hollywood. He's very talented and Little ashes will really show what he can do.

Robert Pattinson is the perfect role i think for Twilight. Not ugly by far as far as I'm cocerned...very much the oposite! His facial features and expressions alone seem to just encumpus what Edward is. That subtle beauty that comes naturally and melts you from the out side in and the inside out all at the same time! He dominates the movie from what I've seen so far and I look so foward to all the little parts in the book that I loved. Even the alterations, it'll be like reading a whole new book but now my brain won't have to work so hard to picture him ;) I can just sit back and enjoy!
Robert's been bashed for his casting as Edward and I haven't the slightest idea why, even Kristen...They seem perfect for their roles. I looked at pictures of the other people who people wished would have played edward and bella but the other girl was way too young looking and the other guys would not have been able to capture the Edward that at least I pictured.

I'm interested to see how I feel about him once I see the movie. I was really hoping to see someone like Chace Crawford cast as Edward.

"Spunk" I hope you keep grounded with all that is going on in your life at this moment. You seem like such a fine young gentleman. It would be grand one day to sit and have a chat with you about anything. Your song Never Think reminded me a lot of Dylan. Hope to hear more from you.

Your music squeezes my heart, Mr. Pattinson, and I find your hands even more expressive than your (admittedly attractive) eyes. What an exciting time of your life to be in! I love that you're slightly neurotic and talk too quickly when you're uncomfortable...kudos to you for holding on to humanity in the face of this insane stardom.

This is a great interview! I love Rob... he fulfilled my entire expectations of Edward Cullen... I can't imagine another actor for this role! So I hope, if eclipse and breaking dawn come out to theaters as well... he should be ed cullen again... can't get enough of rob! If anyone knows the song he plays at the end... when Bella is near death from James' bite... please let me know the title!!! Id like to download it... cause it sounds just as good as 'Never Think'. Please? Thanx in advance!!!
