Orange County asks for pledges to cut waste by 10%

Could you throw away 10% less trash if you tried?

Orange County is asking residents to do just that by pledging to ‘Save 10% in 2010’ to keep waste out of its landfills.

OC Waste & Recycling and the Orange County Board of Supervisors on Thursday announced a campaign called ‘Waste Free OC. Save Room for Tomorrow.’ In addition to an online pledge to reduce your contribution to the county’s landfill by 10%, the new website also offers tips on how to cut back, a quiz on your recycling, composting and consumption habits and a guide to having a zero-waste Super Bowl party.

If each of the county’s 3 million people were to throw out 10% less waste, nearly 1.5 million pounds of waste could be kept out the county’s landfill each day, according to the site.
