L.A. TRAFFIC TOPS NATION: Been stuck in traffic lately?  A recent study shows that Los Angeles is the most congested city in America.  While economic decline and increasing gas prices in the last year have led to a decline in L.A.'s driving population, our traffic continues to top other highly congested cities such as New York and Chicago.  For more information, visit our Up to Speed blog.

JAPAN MAY CUT WHALE QUOTA: Australia's Daily Telegraph quotes a Japanese newspaper stating Japan may reduce its original whaling quota of about 1,000 by several hundred.

A WHALE'S WORLD: Whale enthusiasts who want to learn more about the blue whale should tune in to the National Geographic Channel at 8 p.m. Sunday for "Kingdom of the Blue Whale."  The feature follows a team of scientists as they observe the behavior of the animal in its natural habitat and as they journey to locate its breeding grounds.  Also included is first-ever underwater footage of a newborn blue whale.  For more information and a clip of the program, check out Pete Thomas' post.
