If you are an avid YouTube user, you’ve probably seen clips of “The Story of Stuff,” a 20-minute film about the environmental consequences of America’s consumerist society. The film has been circulating around the Internet since 2007, gaining a loyal following among environmentalists. Last December, the video was released internationally and translated into 10 languages. Annie Leonard, the writer of the film, plans to expand her audience and is currently working on a ‘Story of Stuff’ book.

The film recently has been a subject of debate. In Montana, the Missoula County Public Schools board of trustees ruled that a Big Sky High School science teacher’s classroom showing of the film violated board policy.
