ENVIRONMENTALIST ON DWP BOARD: The L.A. City Council approved the appointment of environmentalist Jonathan Parfrey as a DWP commissioner on Friday, Jan 23. As reported by David Zahniser, Parfrey, an avid supporter of Measure B, criticized DWP General Manager H. David Nahai for avoiding a board discussion of solar proposals.

TUSK OF WAR: Bob Barker, the former host of ‘The Price Is Right,’ is donating $1.5 million to transfer Billy, a 23-year-old elephant, from the Los Angeles Zoo to the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in San Andreas. Strong opposition to the transfer has been expressed by hundreds, including rock guitarist Slash, Actress Betty White and TV host Jack Hanna, who have long endorsed a project to keep Billy at the L.A. Zoo’s Pachyderm Forest.
