Groups to sue over polar bear, oil exploration

Two environmental groups served notice that they will sue the Bush administration over oil and gas exploration in the habitat of the polar bear.

The species was the first to be protected under the Endangered Species Act solely because of global warming. Ice shelves have been receding, making it difficult for the bears to hunt for seals, their primary food.

The Center for Biological Diversity and Pacific Environment are upset that oil and gas leases are still being sold in the Chukchi Sea and other areas.
