Will Mark Wahlberg's Sports Illustrated cover curse his Golden Globe chances?

Mark whalberg sports illustrated Will Mark Wahlberg's Sports Illustrated cover curse his chances of taking home a Golden Globe Award?

The actor had quite a Tuesday. With a Golden Globe nomination for his acting in based-on-a-true-story "The Fighter," he proved that it can help to build a boxing ring in your back yard. Plus "Boardwalk Empire," a show he executive produces, scored a best TV drama nomination.

But ... he had to do the Sports Illustrated thing.

Wahlberg now has the dubious honor of being one of the few nonsports figures ever to grace the SI cover. We'd totally be saying, "Good for you, show off those abs, boy!," if it weren't for the dreaded Sports Illustrated cover jinx.

According to hex lore, athletes who appear on the sports mag face injuries or — ahem — losses soon after their turn on the cover.

Could Wahlberg suffer a similar fate? Or will Christian Bale, who plays his brother in the movie and posed with him, take the fall instead? Share your speculation in the comments.

David Arquette plans a TV game show, so don't call him a Hollywood square

David-arquette-game-show Now-single actor David Arquette is reportedly trying his hand at a game show, and no, the premise is nothing like "Family Feud" or the not-technically-a-game-show-but-still-could-have-cash-prizes "Divorce Court." According to Variety, Arquette and Merv Griffin Entertainment are pitching an American version of "Ranking the Stars," a program already running in places such as the Netherlands and India. Variety describes its premise:

" 'Ranking the Stars' takes a group of well-known panelists and asks them to rank one another on a given topic, from most likely to least likely.

[The] show requires celebrities to be self-deprecating as they're forced to admit whether they think they'd be more or less prone to do something embarrassing -- such as secretly informing the paparazzi on their whereabouts or making a sex tape -- than the celeb sitting next to them."

And no, you're not crazy to see comparisons between this show and those from the heyday of game shows. That's actually kind of fitting, given that Arquette's grandfather Cliff Arquette made frequent appearances on the first "The Hollywood Squares" as his popular Charley Weaver alter-ego.

'Teen Mom' Amber Portwood: Nothing says 'I love my kid' like a massive tummy tattoo of the little angel

Amber portwood tattoo Sometimes it isn't enough to tell your kids how much you love them -- you have to show it too.

Amber Portwood, one of the teenagers featured on the MTV reality show "16 and Pregnant" and its spinoff, "Teen Mom," had been going through a rough patch lately. The "Teen Mom" Season 2 finale footage that shows her physically abusing her boyfriend and her daughter Leah's father, Gary Shirley, not only resulted in felony domestic violence charges against her but turned Leah into a ward of the state until Amber was able to regain custody at the end of November.

After she heard she was eventually getting Leah back, the young mother set about getting a large tattoo of her daughter across her left side, Star magazine reports. The celebrity gossip magazine offers the picture at left as proof.

Of course, lots of people get names and pictures of loved ones tattooed on their bodies to mark key events, and we can only imagine what kind of stress Amber was going through at the time. Still, how much is too much?

Kelsey Grammer engaged to Kayte Walsh

Kelsey-grammer-engaged Though his divorce from "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Camille Grammer isn't official, actor Kelsey Grammer is ready to make things official with girlfriend Kayte Walsh, as a representative has confirmed that they are engaged.

"They're very happy and very much in love," the source told People. "They never announced it because he wanted to be discreet and enjoy the good news privately."

Grammer's relationship with Walsh, a British flight attendant, became public knowledge when reports broke late in the summer that they were expecting their first child. The pregnancy ended in a miscarriage soon afterward.

She'll be Mrs. Grammer No. 4.

Pink to name her baby after a whiskey? Hey, it could be worse

Pink-carey-hart whiskey jameson We should have known when word got out that singer Pink (a.k.a. Alecia Moore) and motocross racer hubby Carey Hart were expecting their first child that they wouldn't chose just any old name.

Pink has told Ellen DeGeneres that the doctor thought the baby was a girl. So perhaps the expectant momma had her tongue firmly in cheek when she told Access Hollywood's Billy Bush that the couple were considering Jameson for a boy -- as a hat tip to the whiskey?

"My dad's name is James, and my brother's name is Jason," the Grammy Award winner said. "[Carey and I] are both Irish, Carey's middle name is Jason, [and] Jameson -- we like whiskey. That's a no brainer."

Pink had explained earlier in the interview that she was "all about meaning, and Carey feels like he had a girl's hair cut and a girl's name, and he doesn't want kids to have a weird name."

And as far as celebrity baby names go, this one really isn't odd at all. Perhaps Apple Martin or Pilot Inspektor Lee will have little Jameson's back.

Which is your favorite -- or least favorite -- celebrity baby name? Share in the comments.

Mark Ruffalo added to coveted terror advisory list

Mark-ruffalo Sure, award season is just warming up, but it looks as if Mark Ruffalo has already been added to one exclusive list. The boyishly handsome, innocent-looking star of films such as "The Kids Are All Right" and "Zodiac" has been added to a terror advisory list, San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Why? He says it's because he organized screenings for the new documentary on natural gas drilling, "GasLand." Pennsylvania's Office of Homeland Security reportedly took notice of his efforts to raise awareness of the drilling and call for a stop to it, so they added him to the list.

Congratulations, Mark?

Taylor Momsen 'Gossip Girl' departure rumors may be a lot of drama

Taylor momsen jenny gossip girl Poor Little J. Our sources say that Taylor Momsen, who plays the banished ladder climber, "will begin an indefinite hiatus following next Monday's episode."

Is it because of Momsen's supposedly diva-like behavior? Is she spending too much time in the makeup chair getting her eye makeup reapplied and throwing filming off-schedule?

Nah.

Although the CW and producer Warner Bros. aren't commenting, sources close to the show remind us that Momsen is under contract for this season. If she doesn't appear in an episode, it's because Jenny Humphrey's a victim of story lines and simply doesn't have much to do right now.

Which is fittingly convenient, if not totally true. After all, Jenny just outed Blair and Chuck's (re)union and may have gotten Serena is some serious "Single White Female"-level trouble — not to mention she used her own brother as a pawn. Wouldn't you hide in Hudson?

Guess we'll have to check in Monday to see how this pans out. XOXO.

'Jersey Shore's' Snooki promotes safe sex on her birthday

Snooki birthday

When you party like the "Jersey Shore" crew does, you can never have too much protection. Luckily cast member Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi found a brand partner who came equipped: The MTV reality star had LifeStyles condoms sponsor her 23rd birthday at New York club Pacha on Saturday.

Which isn't to say that playing it safe was anything but dull: There was a stripper pole at the club and partygoers got not only condoms but also, um, other adult accessories.

'Hellcats' star Aly Michalka -- channeling Christina Aguilera circa 1999?

Aly Michalka inspired by Christina Aguilera circa 1999?

Fashions have a tendency to come full circle, and though "Burlesque" star Christina Aguilera might have matured beyond the pop princess wardrobe of her "Genie in a Bottle" days, that doesn't mean others can't pick it up and run with it.

Witness the photos above. At left is Aguilera in 1999. At right, check out Aly Michalka (the blond) from the CW's cheerleader drama "Hellcats."

Light blond wavy-curly hair? Check. Midriff-baring logo top? Check. (Yes, technically Michalka is in character and wearing a uniform, and Xtina is just being herself, but somehow that makes it even better.)

Tell us in comments if you see the resemblance, and who you think rocks the look better.

Darren Criss has more singing to do as Blaine on 'Glee'

darren criss glee kurt hummell How do you ensure you'll turn your one episode of "Glee" into a full-fledged gig? Sell, sell, sell, baby. Darren Criss, whose cover of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" on the Nov. 9 episode became the most popular "Glee" single, is a confirmed regular for the rest of Season 2 and for Season 3, according to AfterElton.com.

But wait — that doesn't necessarily mean Blaine and Kurt (Chris Colfer) will be long-term steadies.

"That I have not decided," show creator Ryan Murphy told the blog. "We're writing it. I want to see what people's reaction to that is.

"Part of me thinks he should be the boyfriend; part of me thinks he should just be the mentor. I didn't want to decide that until we got into sort of the middle of the season. We're figuring it out now."

Well, he asked, people. What is your reaction to this potential relationship? Share in the comments.
