Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: GLAAD is cool with their engagement

Brad PItt and Angelina Jolie have a green light from GLAAD

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie may have confirmed their engagement to live as man and wife, but that Friday announcement isn't the only one the famous duo has made regarding the institution of marriage.

In 2006, a year or so into their relationship, Pitt declared that he and Jolie wouldn't tie the knot until all Americans had the equal right to do so, garnering the leading man huge support from the gay community.

We were reminded of this during his recent awards tour for "Moneyball," as Pitt spoke freely about his and Angie's children encouraging them to get hitched. That stirred some anxiety from the gay community, but what's the vibe now that the engagement is official?

"We congratulate them on their engagement and thank them for continuing to speak out about the inequality that so many gay and lesbian couples face today," GLAAD spokesman Rich Ferraro told the Ministry in an email.

"No loving and committed couple should be denied the happiness, joy, and legal protections that come with marriage."

GLAAD's seal of approval certainly clears a political path for the pair to wed (though we can't imagine when, with their massive brood and work schedules), and let's be honest — we'd hardly try to buy a dress, plan a menu or decorate nary a French chateau without that thumbs-up either.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are engaged -- and it's on the record!

"Yes, it's confirmed," Pitt's manager Cynthia Pett-Dante said Friday in a statement. "It is a promise for the future, and their kids are very happy. There’s no date set at this time."

Engagement talk spread like wildfire Friday morning after jeweler Robert Procop revealed that the sparkler Jolie was photographed wearing Wednesday at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art was an engagement ring he'd designed over the course of a year in collaboration with Pitt.

Angelina Jolie's engagement ring"I'm very happy for them," Jon Voight, Jolie's father, told Us Weekly on Friday after the news broke.

The couple have six children: Maddox, 10, Pax, 8, Zahara, 7, Shiloh, 5, and twins Knox and Viv, 3. Jolie said in the past that they would wed if the kids asked, and Pitt told CBS News in January: "We're getting a lot of pressure from the kids.

"Yeah, it means something to them, and they're, you know, they have questions when their friends' parents are married and, why is that?"

Jeweler Procop, who carries a Style of Jolie line that was designed in collaboration with the actress, described the results of the collaboration with Pitt to the Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news Friday.

"Brad was always heavily involved, overseeing every aspect of the creative design evolution," Procop told THR. "The side diamonds are specially cut to encircle her finger. Each diamond is of the highest gem quality."

Jolie, 36, and Pitt, 48, have been together since 2005, after working together on the  movie "Mr. & Mrs. Smith."

This post has been updated, as indicated below.

Are Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt one step closer to tying the knot? If the new ring on her left hand means anything, they could be engaged.

Jolie was photographed wearing the big rock on her ring finger Wednesday night at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where she, Pitt and son Pax were attending a private viewing at the museum's Chinese Galleries.

[Updated, 1:22 p.m. April 13: It's a done deal! A rep for Pitt confirmed the engagement to People magazine Friday.]

"I can confirm that, yes, Robert Procop did indeed design an engagement ring for Angelina Jolie, designed in collaboration with Brad Pitt," a rep for the jeweler told the Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news Friday.

Pictures of actresses wearing rings have been misleading before — witness the recent Miley Cyrus rumor, and the confusion over the Halle Berry-Olivier Martinez engagement, despite confirmation that turned out to be from the wrong jeweler — and no relationship has been watched more closely than Brad and Angie's for signs of pending nuptials. But Procop went into detail with THR, saying, "Brad had a specific vision for this ring, which he realized over a yearlong collaboration. He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect."

And Procop is no newbie to the Brangelina arena: He and Jolie collaborated on a Style of Jolie line of jewelry, with some of the profits going toward building a school in Afghanistan through the Education Partnership for Children in Conflict.

Reps for the couple have not confirmed an engagement. Jolie, 36, and Pitt, 48, have been together since 2005. They have previously said they wouldn't marry until all couples could wed legally, but recently have been talking about "pressure from the kids," with Jolie saying she'd get married if their children asked them to.

"I think it'd be hard to say no to the kids," the mom of six said in 2010.

Chris Noth marries Tara Wilson in Maui

Chris Noth and Tara Wilson get married

Chris Noth of "The Good Wife" has finally married fiancee Tara Wilson. Leave it to Mr. Big to prolong the wait leading up to the nuptials.

Noth, 57, of "Sex and the City" fame, got hitched to Wilson, 30, on the Hawaiian island of Maui on April 6, People reports. The couple has been affianced since 2009.

Their 4-year-old son, Orion Christopher, served as ring bearer in the private ceremony, according to ABC News.

Noth and Wilson met in 2002 at Noth's New York bar, Cutting Room, where she was working.

Now, where is John Corbett to drop his cringe-inducing "SATC" line that they "got Maui-ed"?

Ricki Lake and Christian Evans are married

Ricki Lake in her wedding dressRicki Lake married beau Christian Evans over the weekend -- and the bride on Tuesday shared a photo of herself in her wedding dress.

"Yup. This is me.... Sadie Sadie married lady. :) :) Love is in the air. Xo," she wrote to her followers on Twitter.

The secret ceremony occurred in Southern California on Sunday, 43-year-old Lake told People, describing the day as "a beautiful moment I will never forget."

She and Evans, 40, got engaged last summer, with the bride-to-be announcing her engagement Aug. 11 on Twitter with a photo of the couple. They dated for about a year before he popped the question.

Lake has described Evans as a "normal guy" she met through her best friend. "He's a nobody but he's somebody to me. He's everything to me," she told People.

It's a second marriage for the TV host and "Dancing With the Stars" alum, who has two sons, ages 15 and 10, with artist Rob Sussman. Lake and Sussman divorced in 2005.

"The Ricki Lake Show," Lake's upcoming daily syndicated talk show, debuts Sept. 10.

Jerry Lee Lewis marries again at 76, keeps it close to home

Jerry Lee Lewis

Jerry Lee Lewis has married for a seventh time, and we encourage you to get a pencil and paper and keep notes before reading the rest of this post.

The 76-year-old rock-'n'-roller on March 9 married Judith Brown, his caregiver, in Natchez, Miss., CNN reports -- and that's where the easy part ends.

You see, Judith Brown is the ex-wife of Rusty Brown, Lewis' second cousin. And Rusty Brown would be the brother of Myra Gale Brown, the minor-cousin-once-removed whom Lewis married in 1957.

The 14-year age difference between Lewis and Brown is actually more than the 10-year gap that existed between Lewis and Myra Gale Brown, but then again, Brown was only 13 when they wed, while Lewis was a piano-pummeling 23 getting hitched for the third time.

Publicity from that whole marrying-a-minor-who's-also-a-relative incident -- oops -- dealt a crippling blow to the career of the "Great Balls of Fire" singer. Those two divorced after 13 years.

Lewis and his sixth wife, who were married for 20 years, divorced in 2004.

Miley Cyrus: I'm not engaged to Liam Hemsworth, you big dopes

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are not engaged

What Miley Cyrus giveth, Miley Cyrus also taketh away. So if she gave anyone the impression last week that she and Liam Hemsworth were engaged, don't bother taking that tale to the bank.

The rumors started Thursday after she posted a picture focusing on her manicure — and mentioning nothing whatsoever about the big ol' rock sitting there on her engagement-ring finger.

"I'm not engaged," Cyrus said Monday on Twitter, returning to the scene of the gossip crime. "I've worn this same ring on this finger since November! People just wanna find something to tal [sic] about! It's a topaz people!"

Indeed, if one ignores the ring — which has a bit of a Cracker Jack box look to it, actually — the tweet with the picture last Thursday sounded pretty promotional, and not the least bit romantic. "I am soooo obsessed with @jennahipp nail foundations! It looks so chic and classic!"

Well, nothing said chic and classic quite like showing up Hemsworth's "The Hunger Games" premiere recently, practically bursting out of the top of her midriff-baring Emilio Pucci ensemble. That film may be PG-13, but, as we all know, the former "Hannah Montana" is very grown up these days

But still only dating.

Kate Hudson not secretly married to Matt Bellamy, Goldie Hawn says

Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy

Kate Hudson and fiance/baby daddy Matt Bellamy aren't secretly married, no matter what mom Goldie Hawn may have said — but may not have meant — about her daughter in a recent interview with a British magazine.

Hawn set the record straight Monday via Twitter, but not before a flurry of stories had erupted over her reported choice of words in an article published in ES, the Evening Standard's magazine. RadarOnline presented it as an exclusive Friday night that Hawn had either spilled the beans or had a slip of the tongue about Hudson's marital status.

"My kids are fantastic with their children, they have an amazing parental ethic and I'm very proud of them for that," Hawn reportedly told ES. "When my daughter Kate married an English rock star [Matt Bellamy] it didn't worry me; all that matters is that the relationship is a good one."

Never mind that Radar had qualified it as a possible slip of the tongue: The Vancouver Sun was one outlet that by Monday had turned it into a story with a headline touting Hudson's "secret wedding" to the father of her baby boy, Bing, born last July. The Sun even threw in a pretty big dig: "Goldie Hawn's big mouth has graduated from spoiling mediocre films to her own daughter's wedding."

Ouch. But back to setting the record straight.

"So are kate and Matt really married," a follower asked Hawn via Twitter on Monday, "or are the press twisting your words.....as they do.....again! lol."

"Darling," Hawn replied, "once again twisted the truth. They aren't married. Xx"

Halle Berry, Olivier Martinez really are engaged, he confirms

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez

Halle Berry may have said a few years back that she would never marry again, but it seems girlfriend wasn't exactly telling the truth -- she is in fact engaged to marry French actor Olivier Martinez, he confirmed over the weekend.

"Yes, of course it’s true," Martinez told Miami.com, clearing up rumors Saturday while promoting his new South Beach restaurant, Villa Azur.

A rep for jeweler Gurhan was saying back in January that the emerald on Berry's ring finger was an engagement ring, and that claim had Martinez a bit miffed -- because the opulent trinket was actually designed by Robert Maslo of Paris, whose family has been making jewelry for "kings and queens for many centuries," he told the website.

In Gurhan's defense, a rep said later that the company couldn't be sure Berry was wearing its design. Guess we know the answer to that question now.

And here's the kind of thing you hear only from the real deal: “The ring is textured and contains codes and symbols which you cannot see ... only the person wearing it can," the jeweler told People exclusively of the emerald and gold bauble, which also has two diamonds. "It's very uncommon. The symbols and codes represent [the couple's] story and only they can interpret it."

Maslo said he didn't realize he was crafting an engagement ring when Martinez approached him last year with the project. Berry and Martinez first stepped out publicly as a couple in October 2010. This will be Berry's third marriage.
