Reese Witherspoon gets a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame, a.k.a. 'This just in from the Island of Adorable'

Reese Witherspoon

Reese-witherspoon-2If there's anything cuter than Reese Witherspoon, it has to be Reese Witherspoon with kids and puppies -- a phenomenon demonstrated Wednesday in Hollywood as the actress got her star on the Walk of Fame, with her children and "Legally Blonde" costar Bruiser the Chihuahua on hand (even in hand, actually) for support.

Reese Witherspoon with Bruiser the Chihuahua James L. Brooks the writer-director of Oscar winner Witherspoon's next movie, "How Do You Know," costarring Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson, opening Dec. 17,  did the honors of introducing the recipient of star No. 2,425.

Ava, 11, and Deacon, 7, the 34-year-old's children with ex Ryan Philippe, posed for star pics while boyfriend Jim Toth, an agent, hung out in the audience with Reese's parents, John and Betty Witherspoon.

Witherspoon has been pretty cute about the relationship with Toth too, telling Glamour recently, "I don't want to disparage any of the other relationships that I've had that were meaningful and wonderful. But what I'm finding out is that it's very comfortable to be with somebody who understands my career, but doesn't do what I do."

Note to Mr. Toth: Doesn't sound like she wants you to quit your day job any time soon. Adorable.

Cher's Hollywood footprint ceremony typically low-key, with a busload of Chilean miners and a turquoise G-string

Cher leaves footprints in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater Cher's footprints and handprints in cement In fishnets and high heels, with a dash of turquoise and an audience of unexpected heroes, Cher left her mark in front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Thursday.

The singer and actress was back on Hollywood Boulevard after the Monday premiere of her latest film, "Burlesque," which opens Nov. 24 and stars Christina Aguilera.

Cher's mom, Georgia Holt, and son Chaz Bono were on hand as she cast her footprints and handprints in cement, then topped it all off with a healthy dose of gold glitter. Surprise guests included the 33 rescued Chilean miners, who cruised past atop a double-decker tourist bus while in town for the upcoming Thanksgiving special, "CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute."

On the always interesting wardrobe front, an assistant's tank top was called into emergency duty after the star realized the slip to her see-through dress was missing. But it was only a tank top, not a full slip, which is how we know her undies were turquoise.

Anything less just wouldn't be Cher, would it?

Christina Aguilera, Alan Menken get their stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Christina Aguilera gets a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Singer and newly minted leading lady Christina Aguilera got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, just hours before hitting the premiere of her first film, "Burlesque," at Grauman's Chinese Theater.

Star No. 2,423 — in the recording category and in front of the Hard Rock Cafe on Hollywood Boulevard — belongs to the five-time Grammy winner, who has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and has four No. 1 songs to her name. Mom Shelley Kearns and brother Michael Kearns were there for the ceremony and posed for pics.

Mandy Moore with Alan Menken at his Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony Composer Alan Menken picked up star No. 2,422 last week in the company of Mandy Moore and characters from the upcoming flick "Tangled," which he scored. His resume includes the scores for "Beauty and the Beast," "The Little Mermaid" and "Pocahantas" for Disney, plus eight Oscars and 10 Grammys.

Also, catching up a bit, a time capsule was buried at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in late October, ahead of the Walk of Fame's 50th anniversary.

Among the items included: Oscar telecasts from 1960 and 2010 on DVDs; a 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards program, invite, Governors Ball ticket and menu; a replica of the Capitol Records tower; a flash drive with radio programs including one from Jim Ladd of KLOS 95.5 FM; "Wicked" and "The Lion King" Playbills from the Pantages; a "Casablanca" script; and an autographed picture of Joanne Woodward, the first person to get a star; and from sponsor L'Oreal, lipstick in the commemorative shade "Walk of Fame Pink #50."

One item that could be a lot of fun to see in 50 years? A list of 2010 Emmy Foundation interns — some of whom had better wind up industry players by then.

Laura Dern, Diane Ladd, Bruce Dern get stars on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Dern-family

Dern-ruffalo-lynch Diane Ladd, Laura Dern and Bruce Dern got a constellation's worth of stars Monday on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, marking the first time three family members received stars side by side on Hollywood Boulevard.

"I ask the universe that these three stars right here -- when I'm dead and gone or if I'm still alive-- that whoever comes and looks at it or stands on it, may the energy of the three of our lives permeate into their foundation and help each and every one fulfill their destiny with joy and love, as I wish for you," said Ladd, 74.

Ladd was married to Dern from 1960 to 1969, and Laura was born in 1967. Mother and daughter appeared together in "Rambling Rose" as well as "Wild at Heart," directed by David Lynch, who with actor Mark Ruffalo did the honors during the star ceremony.

Bill Maher gets a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame, doesn't thank God

Bill-maher-star1

Bill-maher-star2 Bill Maher was honored with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame on Tuesday, with Larry King and Seth MacFarlane doing the introductory honors.

The stand-up comic, author and talk-show host thanked "George Bush, Sarah Palin and the pope" in presenting one of his "26 unused Emmy speeches," referring to his record number of nominations without a win (the atheist has contended that religion has played a part in the shutout).

Maher's name is on star No. 2,417, outside the W Hotel at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street.

Also on scene: demi-celebs "Downtown" Julie Brown and Kato Kaelin.

Emma Thompson, Marco Antonio Solis get stars on Hollywood's Walk of Fame

Emma-thompson-star Emma Thompson got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, in an appropriately British location -- outside the Pig 'n' Whistle pub, est. 1927.

Joining the Oscar winner on Hollywood Boulevard as star No. 2,416 was unveiled were her "Nanny McPhee Returns" costar Maggie Gyllenhaal and "House, M.D." star Hugh Laurie, a friend since their Cambridge days.

Thompson's "Nanny McPhee Returns" opens Aug. 20 in U.S. theaters.

Mark Wahlberg put dibs on star No. 2,414 last week, and on Thursday, Mexican singer Marco Antonio Solis, a multiple Latin Grammy winner, snagged star No. 2,415 in the recording category, with L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in attendance.

"I'm a fan of his talent,'' Villaraigosa told KPCC. "I'm a fan of his artistry. I'm a fan of his humility.''

Mark Wahlberg gets his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Wahlberg-ferrell

Wahlberg-star Mark Wahlberg got his star, No. 2,414, on Hollywood's Walk of Fame on Thursday, taking time along the way to thank his wife and kids and Penny Marshall and God.

Will Ferrell, Wahlberg's "The Other Guys" costar, kept the introduction brief but took time to explain, "I first became a fan of Mark's when I bought his workout video. And I love all your 'Bourne' movies."

Indeed. Especially the one where Jason Bourne goes undercover as an adult film star in the Valley?

But more seriously, Ferrell said, "Not only is he one of the hardest-working guys, he's a great family man, and just a great dude."

"I really felt like this was all a big practical joke," quipped Wahlberg, who toward the end of his acceptance speech brought his toddler son, Brendan, up to the mike with him (see it at the Hollywood Reporter).

Wahlberg reviewed his career -- ditching a boy band for rap, showing off his goods as ...

Randy Newman, who 'sings like a frog on heroin,' gets his Hollywood Walk of Fame star

Newman-star-web Randy Newman, the singer-composer extraordinaire known for a few little ditties including "I Love L.A." and, oh, 19 Oscar-nominated original songs, got his name on star No. 2,411 on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday. (Bonus: Name spelled correctly!)

Along with Pixar exec John Lasseter, actor Eric Idle of Monty Python fame addressed the "ladies and gentlemen -- and politicians" gathered for the event, which honored the Oscar-, Grammy- and Emmy-winner's contributions to film, ahead of the June 18 release of "Toy Story 3," which Newman scored.

"I have a confession to make today," Idle said. "I love Randy Newman. And not just physically. I love his music. Who could resist a man who looks like a dentist, writes like Voltaire, sings like a frog on heroin -- and breaks just like a little girl." (Click here for Idle's entire speech.)

Newman's Oscar nominations -- he won once -- include three for songs from the first two "Toy Story" movies, so characters from those films were on hand for the ceremony. Think it's freaky to watch Lindsay Lohan get mobbed by paparazzi? Check out how it goes down when Woody and Buzz Lightyear are involved.

And if it's been a while since you gave "Short People" a listen, take a trip back to 1978 -- a time when Newman's hair wasn't quite so white, and maybe you weren't even born -- after the break.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus gets her star on Holywood's Walk of Fame. Oops, make that Hollywood.

JLD1
Julia Louis-Dreyfus
got her star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame on Tuesday, and with a touch suited to her comedic roles on "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and, of course, "Seinfeld."

Jld2 Seems the actress' name was misspelled "Julia Luis Dreyfus" -- yes, with the "o" and the hyphen missing -- on the first incarnation of her star. Fortunately for the layers of folks who'd approved the star up to that point, the mistakes were discovered by CNN producer David Daniel as he walked by on his way to work that morning.

A quick fix was made for the cameras; LAist reported that the "Luis" was chiseled out and given to the Emmy winner as a souvenir. A permanent replacement is to come -- or, as former copy editor Daniel might say, one is "TK."

"Right when you think you've made it, you get knocked down," she said afterward to E! Online. "It's an ideal metaphor for how this business works."

Louis-Dreyfus, whose name we prefer to misspell as "Louis-Dreyfuss" when the mood suits us, is the first "Seinfeld" alum to get a star.

Dennis Hopper is near death and short on cash, divorce attorney says

Hopper Actor Dennis Hopper is dying and too weak to face a deposition by his wife's divorce lawyer, according to a court filing Wednesday.

But he's not too weak to accuse wife Victoria Duffy of stealing $1.5-million worth of his art, including a portrait of him done by Andy Warhol

The actor weighs only 100 pounds, his doctor said in the filing, and is unable to participate in long conversations. Previous filings have been more positive about Hopper's health and hopeful about chemotherapy results, KTLA reports. The actor also says in the filing that he has only about $300,000 total in liquid assets.

Hopper is scheduled to receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday; his doctor has given him the OK to go to that event. Viggo Mortenson will be on hand for the induction ceremony.
