Tom Cruise to lead Clint Eastwood's 'Star Is Born' with Beyonce?

Tom Cruise could star opposite Beyonce in 'A Star Is Born'

Could Tom Cruise's next mission be another foray into music? Rumor has it he's at the top of the list to play Beyonce's leading man in Clint Eastwood's update of "A Star Is Born."

Cruise is allegedly the prime choice for the starring role opposite Jay-Z's wife in the highly pedigreed project set to shoot sometime this summer.

Studio Warner Bros is attempting to court the actor, according to Variety, to squeeze the film in between two action projects he's slated for. The presumption is that Cruise is feeling confident with his musical side after portraying a famous rocker in the forthcoming "Rock of Ages."

Not to mention the chance to work with Eastwood.

"It was a near-perfect experience. His level of commitment and enthusiasm, I mean, he becomes this incredible partner for you," director Shankman told us of Cruise's work in "Ages."

As far as new mom Beyonce is concerned, Deadline says she'll be in fighting shape as early as June for the part -- the biggest of her career. Would you like to see Tom and B together on the big screen? Tell us in comments.

Golden Globes: Charlize Theron, Tilda Swinton toast performances

Tilda Swinton

In the penthouse of the Chateau Marmont -- where the routine performances are those of service, fame and occasionally CPR -- W magazine toasted its Best Performances issue just ahead of Sunday's Golden Globes telecast.

With the luminous faces of Charlize Theron and Brad Pitt (the issue's cover stars) adorning the walls, crowds of movie stars, directors and executives floated over Sunset Boulevard mingling with each other and editor in chief Stefano Tonchi.

Theron rocked a lacy black dress and chatted up her "Snow White and the Huntsman" costar Chris Hemsworth -- who sported his "Avengers" platinum blond hair beside wife Elsa Pataky.

Tilda Swinton, rather stunning in a tapered white suit, greeted Tom Cruise, Viola Davis, Patrick Stewart and Jared Leto while monitors played clips of 2011's busiest thespians, including Carey Mulligan.

Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr roamed hand-in-hand, Bloom stopping to embrace "Elizabethtown" costar Kirsten Dunst and English breakout actor Benedict Cumberbatch.

Jessica Biel, rumored to be engaged to Justin Timberlake, showed with an empty ring finger but a stunning floor-length sequin gown. She stuck close to a female pal and shared some laughs and a few glasses of Dom Perignon with Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the design duo behind label Rodarte.

Madonna, Demi Moore light up CAA Golden Globes bash

Talent agency CAA populates most of film and television with its star clients above and below the line, and managed to coax seemingly all of them to the Soho House in West Hollywood on Friday.

As part of the agency's annual pre-Golden Globes celebration, the whole of the exclusive club was occupied by nominees and their famous cheerleaders. Where to begin? Madonna, Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon, Diddy, Michael Fassbender, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bradley Cooper, Jamie Foxx.

And that's to name a few. Some of our favorite scenes from the CAA bash were ...

Girl talk: Madonna sat on the rear patio in a form-fitting red dress and motorcycle gloves with Demi Moore and some agent types, and kept cool as a cucumber when Moore's ex Ashton Kutcher breezed in with his newly shaved face.

Boys club: DiCaprio is still in "Gatsby" mode -- the actor held court F. Scott Fitzgerald style on a side patio with Orlando Bloom for hours, laughing and sharing an electronic cigarette. Bloom's gal Miranda Kerr kept up with them no problem, sipping Grey Goose cocktails and laughing with the boys.

Everyone loves Cameron: Honestly, Diaz was Miss Congeniality. Entering the fete with her "Knight and Day" costar Tom Cruise, Diaz was received with hugs, kisses and squeals by everyone from Witherspoon and Chelsea Handler to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Jason Statham. Diddy stuck close to Cammy all evening.

Babysitters Club: Hollywood parents used CAA as the perfect excuse to hit the town, like Witherspoon and her agent husband Jim Toth, Robert Downey Jr. (no sight of pregnant wife Susan) and Robert DeNiro -- who welcomed a baby with Grace Hightower in December.

Also spotted: Axl Rose, Sean Penn, Ryan Kwanten, Alexander Skarsgard, Gerard Butler, Julianne Moore, Jason Bateman, Nick Nolte and couple Salma Hayek and Francois Pinault.

'Mission Impossible 4' stars get spousal support for N.Y. premiere

In their roles as agents abandoned by their government in "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol," stars such as Tom Cruise and Paula Patton have only each other another to lean on.

But that wasn't the case Tuesday in New York City, where both stars had their real-life support systems -- Katie Holmes and Robin Thicke -- on hand to help them premiere the new flick.

Tom Cruise and Katie HolmesKatie walked the carpet with her man Tom in a holiday-appropriate blue number and slicked-back hair, and talk naturally turned to their little gal Suri.

"We went to 'The Nutcracker,' " Cruise told Entertainment Tonight of the brood's holiday activities. "We went [to] Rockefeller Center and did a little skate around, saw the Rockettes. Suri loves that kind of stuff."

Patton had sexy mate Robin Thicke in tow as the couple strutted into the Ziegfield Theater hand-in-hand.

An after-party followed the screening at the Museum of Modern Art, where Queen Latifah came to wish Patton well. Other notables in attendance included "MI4" stars Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner, director Brad Bird, J.J. Abrams and  "Once Upon A Time" actress Jennifer Morrison.

"Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" opens Wednesday.

Tom Cruise takes ‘Mission: Impossible’ to new heights [Video]

Tom Cruise went to great lengths, or should we say, great heights for his latest turn as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in the new “Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol” (see the new trailer below).

His latest mission? Performing some of his own stunt work, including scaling the outside of the Burj Khalifa, also known as the tallest building on the planet! Towering over the city of Dubai, the skyscraper is a staggering 2,723 feet high.

Watch the featurette below as the 49-year-old jumps out a window, swings around the exterior and runs and climbs across the windows, all with the help of some hefty cables. As director Brad Bird says in the clip, “This is just another day at work on ‘Mission Impossible.’”

The new trailer offers a few more plot and action details, but mainly reinforces the premise that Hunt and his IMF (Impossible Missions Force) pals are going rogue after being framed for a terrorist bombing at the Kremlin in Moscow.

Ghost Protocol, some type of black ops mission, is initiated, and the espionage team is left on their  own to clear their names. However, if they are caught, they will be branded as terrorists seeking global nuclear war.

In addition to Cruise, Simon Pegg returns as gadget guru Benji Dunn, while Paula Patton joins as the female lead and Jeremy Renner as a brooding and mysterious new IMF agent named Brandt (rumored to be carrying on the franchise after Tom).

The action flick is set to open wide Dec. 21, with an early IMAX debut Dec. 16.

Justin Bieber's scary guys night with Jaden Smith, Connor Cruise

Justin Bieber and Jaden Smith

Justin Bieber took a break from recording his Christmas album and romancing Selena Gomez for a fun-filled guys night Sunday with famous pals Jaden Smith and Tom Cruise's son, Connor.

Hitting up Universal Studios Hollywood's popular Halloween Horror Nights attraction, Bieber indulged in scares including "Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life," where his group evaded a knife-wielding Ghostface killer, as well as mazes based on Eli Roth's "Hostel" films and Rob Zombie's gross-out movies.

Arriving around 7 p.m. and staying until just after midnight, the group received a VIP tour and were "totally scared," one onlooker said.

Ghoulish motifs must be a welcome change for the Biebs, who has been up to his 17-year-old ears in holiday spirit. "Under the Mistletoe," his soon-to-be-released Christmas record, features collaborations with the likes of his mentor Usher.

In fact, Usher and Bieber released their take on "The Christmas Song" on Monday.

"This record is going to be remembered for years to come," Usher said on a call to Ryan Seacrest's morning radio show. "It's a record that has always been one of my favorites, and I'm happy that I was able to share it with Justin, and for us to put it out."

Ministry Q&A: Riding in cars with Adam Shankman

Adam Shankman will accept the Outfest Legacy Award

So fine, we weren't in the car with Adam Shankman, but the Ministry caught up with the multi-talented director and choreographer this week while he was on the road, to chat about awards, childhood inspiration and Alec Baldwin's wig.

Shankman has directed musicals including "Hairspray" and the upcoming Tom Cruise starrer "Rock of Ages." He's also the recipient this year of one of Outfest's Legacy Awards.

Ministry of Gossip: Does it feel odd to get a Legacy Award in the middle of your career?

Adam Shankman: I know, right? I swear I'm not that old [laughs]. What Outfest Legacy is about is the preservation of film, of that sort of journey in LGBT film, so that, yeah, is what the honor is and I'm thrilled.

MoG: You've been a choreographer, a television director for shows like "Glee," and obviously your film work from "A Walk to Remember" to "Rock of Ages." What were you inspirations as a kid?

AS: Well, the through-line of all that is song and dance. I'm from L.A. and some of my earliest memories were loving song and dance, stuff like "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and "The Sound of Music."

MoG: "Rock of Ages" seems to be the perfect storm of all that, with such a huge cast. Was there any trepidation at all in working with Tom Cruise?

AS: No, and in a strange way, it was a near perfect experience. His level of commitment and enthusiasm, I mean, he becomes this incredible partner for you.... I learned that he has two things in life that he loves: his family and his work.

MoG: What about the risk of casting him as an iconic rock star, something we've never seen from him before?

AS: He and I agreed a long time ago that we would never expose him if he wasn't going to be great. And he threw himself in 2 million percent.

MoG: This is also a major step for Alec Baldwin. From all of his "30 Rock" success it's clear that his film career could be viable again, but let's start first with his hair.

AS: I mean, when we put that wig on him, we giggled for hours.

MoG: Is he ready for film again?

AS: Well, the thing is -- every time he's in a movie he's spectacular. The greatest thing, that I am so happy for and happy for the entire world, really, is the moment he discovered comedy. It doesn't just have to be in the ["30 Rock" character] Jack Donaghy suit.

Shankman will accept Outfest Legacy's Visionary Award on Thursday at the Directors Guild America. The organization will also honor Lifetime Networks.

Katie Holmes throws Tom Cruise a surprise 49th birthday bash

Katie Holmes threw her husband Tom Cruise a surprise birthday party Katie Holmes gave her husband Tom Cruise the gift of good old-fashioned elbow grease for his birthday -- by coordinating a surprise party for the action star all on her own.

On Sunday, for Cruise's 49th birthday, Holmes whipped up a private shindig at Miami Beach's SoHo House where 40 friends and family members toasted him.

At the top of the guest list was little Suri, Cruise and Holmes' well-dressed daughter, and Isabella and Connor -- Cruise's kids from his marriage to Nicole Kidman.

Italian-inspired dishes featuring shrimp and pasta were served before a chocolate birthday cake, according to People. Holmes oversaw planning from soup to nuts, the report says, even personally accepting RSVPs

Cruise is currently filming Adam Shankman's big screen adaptation of "Rock of Ages."

Tom Cruise tweets shirtless 'Rock of Ages' photo

Tomcruisestory Tom Cruise treated fans to a sneak peek of his latest character, Stacee Jaxx in "Rock of Ages," via Twitter on Friday. The shirtless pic proves he’s still got it, even at 48.

With his long flowing hair, bad boy tats, leather boots and seriously toned arms, he could be the envy of every '80s rocker. Better yet, he gets to cover "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi.

But can he sing? The answer is yes, according to his wife, Katie Holmes. Tom “is such an amazing performer,” she tells Access Hollywood. “The voice is incredible.”

Of course, Cruise did his research and took in a live performance of the show at the Pantages Theatre in February, before officially signing on. The Broadway musical and the film both follow a small-town girl and a boy from south Detroit who move to L.A. in 1987 to follow their rock 'n' roll dreams.

Adam Shankman is directing the A-list film cast, which also includes Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Mary J. Blige. The movie is set to open June 1, 2012.

Oprah Winfrey's long goodbye: Maria Shriver, Tom Cruise, Tyler Perry and more pay homage [Pictures]

Orpah gets a star-studded send off from Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith

For Oprah Winfrey, the beginning of the end was announcing in November 2009 that her long-running "The Oprah Winfrey Show" would be calling it quits after 25 years on the air. Following a supersized final season and trickling, teary-celeb tributes, the end is almost here.

Oprah Winfrey and Tom Cruise Taping "Oprah's Surprise Spectacular," her third-to-last show in Chicago, Winfrey hosted tons of famous names who came to pay homage to the queen of daytime television.

Maria Shriver, Madonna, Tyler Perry, Usher and famous couch-jumper Tom Cruise all graced the stage in front of thousands of fans at Chi-town's United Center. It was an event worth getting out of jury duty to witness.

"You have given me love, support, wisdom and, most of all, the truth," Shriver told Winfrey. "And I know I’m not alone in receiving those gifts from you."

A rather fitting performance came from Beyonce, clad in a tuxedo unitard, belting out her new tune "Run the World (Girls)." Atop a glowing podium fit for a female president, Beyonce flipped her hair and sang out, "My persuasion can build a nation."

Oprah can relate. Another female music tribute came from pint-sized Broadway vet Kristin Chenoweth, who performed with scores of formally dressed Morehouse College grads.

Power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith came by, as did Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Katie Holmes, Queen Latifah,  Diane Sawyer and Michael Jordan (click the pics to see more photos from the star-studded event).

We were surprised and delighted to see Winfrey's longtime beau Stedman Graham trot out on stage; we imagine he has an insight or two after so many years with the mogul.

So might Maya Angelou, who appeared with Alicia Keys. As did Dakota Fanning, Jerry Seinfeld, Jamie Foxx, Rosie O'Donnell and John Legend via satellite

Other performers included Patti LaBelle, featuring Josh Groban, Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin.
