Shania Twain falls, Sheryl Crow flashes panties at CMT awards

Shania Twain and Sheryl Crow both goofed at the CMT Music Awards This post has been corrected. See the note below for details.

Shania Twain fell Wednesday night at the CMT Music Awards, stumbling into the same snafu spotlight Sheryl Crow stepped into earlier when she showed off more than she'd planned while performing with Kid Rock.

But both ladies recovered nicely from their respective schadenfreude moments in Nashville.

Shania Twain

Crow wore a short white skirt that gave her minimal coverage while sitting atop a stool during her performance of "Collide." But when the singer moved on to the dancing portion of the duet, her underwear stole the spotlight.

"People all over America are tweeting that I was wearing a really short skirt when I sang with Kid Rock and that when I got up off the stool, I showed my underwear," she said later in the show while presenting an award with Sara Evans

"Well, at least you were wearing underwear," Evans said.

"'Cause I am good, clean family entertainment," the 49-year-old quipped back.

But Crow wasn't the only one with issues. Twain seemingly forgot how to use her feet when walking out to present the award for best male performance. Watch the clip below.

However, the 45-year-old "I Feel Like a Woman" singer, who recently landed a two-year solo residency at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, took the tumble in stride. In a video posted on her site, she assured fans that she wasn't hurt "making a complete fool" of herself.

"I don't need a stunt double because I do my own stunts," she said.

Touche, ladies. Click the pic for more photos from the CMT Music Awards.

For the record, 12:15 p.m. June 9: An earlier version of this post said Sheryl Crow was 45; in fact, she is 49. Thanks to commenter Dave Bruce for pointing out our snafu.

Prince William gets a taste of media cattiness ahead of wedding

Prince William

About all that outrage we vented over Kate Middleton’s treatment in the press: We take it back. Sort of. Kind of. For it appears that Middleton is not the sole member of the soon-to-be-royal couple taking unfair heat in the media. The flak Prince William is taking isn’t over his weight -- though, come on, let’s be fair, his cheeks do look a bit chub. No, the sniping is over Will’s pate, and the growing bald spot sitting on top.

Per the Associated Press: “Prince William’s hairline is fading fast.” (Insert your own schadenfreude snickering here.)

“Casual observers who have not paid much attention to Britain's future king in the years before his recent engagement to Kate Middleton have been surprised by the extent of the 28-year-old's hair loss,” the news organization snipes. “William still cuts a tall, imposing figure, but his bald spot has been spreading as his hairline recedes. It's even more apparent since his 26-year-old brother Prince Harry still sports a luxuriant supply of tousled red hair.”

(Way to attempt an US Weekly-style feud, there, AP. But really: Stick to DC-based navel gazing and leave the serious cattiness to the tabs.)

As for the rest of the Fourth Estate, there are about 895 recent articles mentioning Will’s hairline. Methinks there might be a Royal Office of the Rogaine Purveyor before long.

Lady Gaga is losing her hair -- but what does it mean?

Lady Gaga says she is losing her hair. This just in from the Department of Celebrity Schadenfreude: Lady Gaga is losing her hair.

We're not talking about her amazing Harajuku-via-Miss Piggy collection of hairpieces; those are pretty hard to miss. No, we speak of Ms. Gaga's real live strands, which, apparently, have been taking their leave, en masse, from the artist's head.

And for the record: No, Gaga was not born this way.

The singer recently told People magazine that she occasionally must “get a chemical haircut because my blond hair is falling out." In other words: Bleach plus hair equals a bad coif romance for the Lady.

But get this: When it comes to female celebrity hair loss, she's not alone. Plenty of other famous women have been flashing bald spots, and these gals can't blame bleach for their woes. Kate Beckinsale has been photographed with a bare patch on the back of her pate. Naomi Campbell flashed some serious cranial deforestation during a shoot last year. A similar plight has, on at least one sad occasion, befallen Britney Spears. And poor Fergie; her center part is beginning to resemble Malibu Canyon.

With the thousands that studios and record labels spend on their talent (and it is the suits, not the stars, who usually pay for this stuff), you'd think that some hair guru would be on 24-7 standby in case of follicular homicide. But apparently not.

You might also be tempted to assume that this baldness was caused by some naughty star behavior. (We sure wanted to assume as much.) Sure, Hollywood is filled with anorexia, drug use and nasty weaves, all of which can cause hair to fall out.
