Sarah Michelle Gellar wins with 'Ringer'; will it last? [Poll]

Sarah Michelle Gellar is winning -- so far -- in 'Ringer'

Sarah Michelle Gellar scored big in her return to television as her twins thriller "Ringer" debuted Tuesday to notable numbers for the CW network.

The network reportedly had its best ratings in two years for the time slot, making Gellar's comeback a safe bet -- for the premiere, anyway.

The curiosity factor is always a given with someone such as Gellar, whose "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" juiced up her film career and made her a pop-culture icon. And hunky costars such as Kristoffer Polaha, Nestor Carbonell and Ioan Gruffudd don't hurt as bait for potential new viewers.

Gellar knows what's at stake, especially for a dramatic mystery that isn't in her familiar realm of the supernatural.

"I loved 'Lost,' but I felt it just got deeper and deeper and we never get anything out of it," she told the Los Angeles Times for the fall TV preview.

"[Producers] pitched me the first three seasons all the way through. Some things have already changed, but the big questions we have answers to, and we give them out a little bit every episode."

Do you think "Ringer" will stay a winner? Answer our poll below.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is heading back to "All My Children" to say goodbye

Sarah Michelle Gellar is going back to "All My Children," the soap that launched her television career, to say goodbye to the canceled daytime drama.

Gellar played "AMC's" Kendall Hart Lang, Erica Kane's daughter, from 1993 to 1995 before moving on to her star-making series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." News of the soap's cancellation touched the actress to the point of calling the network and asking for a cameo.

Another actress has stepped into Kendall's shoes, so Gellar won't reprise that role. She confirmed she'll have one day of shooting as a new character, Show Tracker said.

"When I heard that the show was canceled, I didn't understand. It just doesn't make any sense to me. So I called [the casting director] ... and said I wanted to do something," Gellar said Thursday at a Television Critics Assn. panel for her new CW series "Ringer."

Josh Duhamel is another alum returning to Pine Valley for a cameo before the series ends.

At the CW upfronts in May, Gellar told "Extra" that some of her fondest memories as a child were watching soaps with her mom, something she's sad she won't get to do with her little girl Charlotte Grace.

"I think about my daughter -- I remember sick days, crawling into bed with my mom and watching the entire ABC lineup. And honestly it breaks my heart that I'm not going to get to do that," she said in the interview (see it in full, below).

Gellar's return to TV in "Ringer" kicks off Sept. 13 on the CW.

Fans of the blond, also known as Mrs. Freddie Prinze Jr., will be happy to see that although she ain't set to slay vampires, she still seems to be fighting off all kinds of trouble.

"Ringer," originally slated for CBS then handed to sister network the CW, has Gellar as a woman on the run from the mob who decides to inhabit the life of her twin sister -- only to discover her dear sibling has a bounty on her head as well.

As part of upfronts week, the network released a short clip, above. Enjoy the Gellar goodness.
