Matthew Broderick on his Ferris Bueller ad: 'I'm part of a virus'

Matthew Broderick does a grown-up take on Ferris Bueller

Millions may have fallen instantly in love with Matthew Broderick's Super Bowl ad for Honda, which riffs off his teen classic film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." For Sarah Jessica Parker's husband, however, it took a little longer to feel the love.

After pondering the offer for a while, "I ended up thinking it might be amusing," he told New York magazine's Vulture column, saying he was swayed by the director and the idea that it could be fun. And now, he said, "I guess I'm part of a virus."

(That's "going viral," of course, but no worries -- the Internet wasn't exactly a big deal back in 1986, when Bueller first appeared on the big screen.)

Though the commercial now has about 4 million views on Honda's YouTube channel and countless others around the Web, the Bueller "virus" apparently has some folks disappointed.

Complaining commenters have noted that it's not cool to go from a Ferrari to a minivan, not cool that the commercial wasn't shot in Chicago, not cool that Ben Stein wasn't solicited to bring the "Bueller? Bueller?" Other viewers, however, have busied themselves hunting for the "Easter eggs" -- nuggets of insider references to the film -- that are hidden throughout the spot.

As commenter Steven Edwards said Monday at 24 Frames, "Eeeeasy. It's a commercial. Don't let it ruin your day."

If you still haven't seen the extended version of the spot and can't wait till Sunday to see it during the Super Bowl, check it out below, and let us know in comments here -- amusing, or did Matthew Broderick sell out?

Sarah Jessica Parker replaces Demi Moore in 'Lovelace'

Sarah Jessica Parker has replaced Demi Moore in 'Lovelace'
Sarah Jessica Parker will be fitted for the glasses of prominent feminist Gloria Steinem in "Lovelace," replacing actress Demi Moore.
Covering the life of adult film pioneer Linda Lovelace and her rise to stardom, Parker climbs aboard after Moore dropped out of the production due to a personal crisis.
Hospitalized on Monday evening, initial reports alleged Moore was treated for substance abuse, a 911 call later revealing that Moore had a bad reaction to smoking something — on top of reportedly taking "whip-its," recreational inhaling of nitrous oxide.

As Demi's real-life saga continues, "Lovelace" is presumably looking to focus on the scripted drama. Amanda Seyfriend plays the title character, with Peter Sarsgaard as her husband.

Chloë Sevigny, Debi Mazar, Adam Brody, Sharon Stone and Juno Temple round out the cast — but more important, Chris Noth will also appear. Carrie and Mr. Big reunion! '70s porn style!
Women's liberation leader Steinem is traveling, and was not reachable for comment.

Sarah Jessica Parker says son James Wilkie wants to act

Naturally, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick's son James Wilkie wants to act.

The little guy has expressed interest in following in his parents' footsteps, Parker said, and is hot to start auditioning. But mom isn't releasing 8-year-old fashion fan James into the Hollywood wild just yet.

"I don't want him to do it until after he goes to college," she told Parade. "But part of me thinks maybe it's better if he knows the truth now about how hard it is to be a working actor. I don't know if he grasps what it took to get us here."

"Here" would likely be the couple's New York brownstone that's staffed with daily help for James and his younger twin sisters, Tabitha and Loretta.

While nannies pitch in during work hours, Parker and Broderick insist on putting their brood to bed without assistance.

"We love closing the door and having the only people in the house be our three children and us," Parker said. "It’s such a good feeling to know that we’re competent and capable and that it’s private."

Highest-paid actresses: Angelina Jolie, Sarah Jessica Parker rake it in

Angelina Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker are the highest paid actresses

The annual list of highest-paid actresses in Hollywood has hit -- and it looks like lunch this year is on Angelina Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The big-screen women tied for top-earning actress, clocking in with $30 million each earned from May 2010 to May 2011, according to the annual ranking compiled by Forbes magazine.

The list relies purely on income to rank the luminaries, among them Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Cameron Diaz.

What's notable about Jolie's take is that her dough comes solely from film-related income (read: the only surefire movie star) earned on star turns in "Salt" and "The Tourist" as well as her directorial debut, a yet-to-be-released Bosnian love story called "In the Land of Blood and Honey."

Parker, while just as successful, counted cash from perfume lines and a design collaboration with Halston Heritage.

Like the next actress, Aniston has had her share of non-blockbusters, but "Just Go With It," costarring Adam Sandler, marked her fourth-highest domestic opening, Forbes noted. Witherspoon didn't hit big with the romcom "How Do You Know?" but still cashed the same size check as Jen: $28 million.

Julia Roberts came in on their heels at $20 million, followed by Kristen Stewart of "The Twilight Saga" at the same rate. Producer-actress Katherine Heigl earned $19 million for toys for daughter Naleigh, and Diaz took in $18 million as a cushy "Bad Teacher" bonus.

Sandra Bullock folded about $15 million, while her kissing partner Meryl Streep clocked in at $10 million.

Lady Gaga gets major album sales (and approval from Sarah Jessica Parker)

A Lady Gaga update for the Ministry's little monsters -- not that it's a surprise, but she's having a seriously good week.

A 1,108,000-album-selling week, that is, as her new disc "Born This Way" ziplined onto the charts -- meeting the staggering expectations for such a ubiquitous artist, says Rolling Stone.

Sarahjessicaparker In addition to countless stunt performances and promotional appearances in support of the record, her Ladyship's domination was largely due to an Amazon.com promotion that sold the entire album for just 99 cents.

"Anytime we can get people to purchase music legally, it's a good thing," Gaga's manager said in correspondence about "Born This Way's" success.

Another metric for Gaga doing good was her recent compliment from fashion plate Sarah Jessica Parker. The "Sex and the City" star, a successful fragrance and clothing designer in her own right, praised the singer.

She's "in a league of her own. I admire her aesthetic choices," Parker recently told MTV News. "I think we have very different silhouettes that we choose. I don’t mean that in a judgmental way. I mean that she is an extraordinary and singular and unique person."

Met Gala 2011: Madonna, Kristen Stewart, Kanye West work the red carpet [Pictures]

Kristen Stewart in Proenza Schouler at the 2011 Met Gala Well-heeled luminaries from fashion, Hollywood and the arts crowd gathered in Manhattan on Monday night for the 2011 Met Gala, hosted annually by Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour and more formally known as the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala Benefit.

This year's exhibit celebrates the life and work of Alexander McQueen (super timely, because that fashion house just dressed Kate Middleton for her wedding to Prince William).

McQueen, of course, took his own life in in February 2010. Wintour was joined by Salma Hayek and her husband, luxury brand mogul Francois-Henri Pinault, in unveiling the exhibit.

Madonna appeared on the arm of manager Guy O'Seary, looking statuesque in a green gown (though nowhere near the hauteness of her 2009 Vuitton bunny ears). Sarah Jessica Parker brought some Carrie Bradshaw fierceness with a glittering flesh-tone McQueen gown and Bravo's Andy Cohen on her arm.

Renee Zellweger wore a similar color, a bit more glowing in a near-perfect showing of glamour after her recent split from actor Bradley Cooper

There was clearly a color trend to the evening as Gwyneth Paltrow opted for a similar palette, designed in her case by pal Stella McCartney

Because the Met Gala is all about fashion, big-name designers get to show off who inspires them — for example, Tory Burch suiting up suited Kanye West, Kristen Stewart looking radiant with her dress designers Proenza Schouler, and Thakoon Panichgul making the scene with Mia Wasikowska.

Michelle Williams was still working her pixie magic, rocking a black Miu Miu gown with gold bird detail. Also spotted at the Met Gala: Jennifer Lopez in Gucci, pregnant ladies Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba, Vogue's Hamish Bowles, Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough, Zoe Saldana, Freida Pinto, Diane Kruger, and Beyonce.

Sandra Bullock is Hollywood's highest-paid actress -- and about that Gulf Coast PSA ... [poll]

Sandra Bullock and Scarlett Johansson Sandra Bullock is currently the highest-paid actress in Hollywood, having pulled in $56 million between June 2009 and June 2010, Forbes reports.

Tens of millions of dollars away in second place, it was a tie: Reese Witherspoon and Cameron Diaz each earned about $32 million for the year. Jennifer Aniston came in fourth at $27 million, and Sarah Jessica Parker notched in fifth at $25 million.

Bullock pulled in the bucks largely from "The Proposal" and "The Blind Side." On the latter, she cut her asking price, earned an Oscar and took home a sizable chunk of the $320-million box-office take, according to Forbes.

'Sex and the City 2' gets glossy New York City premiere [pics]

Sex and the City 2 premiere

Though the girls decamp to Abu Dhabi, the "Sex and the City 2" cast payed homage to their fifth character -- New York City -- with a star-studded premiere at Radio City Music Hall on Tuesday night.

Sarah Jessica Parker turned up in an electric yellow Valentino gown with husband Matthew Broderick in tow.

Sex-and-the-City-gallery "I'm still so nervous," she told E!'s Marc Malkin, "look at my cuticles!"

SJP's on-screen gal pals Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis proved to be showstoppers as well. Also on the scene was the real-life "Carrie," Candace Bushnell with her husband, Charles Askegard.

And don't miss Liza "Single Ladies" Minnelli, decked out in a gray latex number that Lady Gaga would approve of.

One familiar face on the carpet was model Noah Mills (who we introduced to you), celebrating his on-screen debut as a fling for the notoriously sexy Samantha Jones. Other men of "Sex" included Mr. Big a.k.a. Chris Noth, Jason Lewis and John Corbett.

Get all the fabulous pics in our premiere gallery, and catch the full movie trailer before the film hits the big screen on May 27.

2010 Met Gala video: Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel sip before they schmooze

We thought the secrets to surviving the Costume Institute Gala at the Met were double-stick tape and some Altoids -- Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake prefer tequila.

Though it surely has nothing to do with the fact that Justin owns a tequila brand, we still found it charming when the couple 'fessed up to their pregame habits at last night's big hurrah.

Vogue contributing editor William Norwich fawns over the likes of Gwen Stefani, Sarah Jessica Parker, Eva Mendes, Katy Perry (who brought back-up batteries for her neon look) and Anne Hathaway in a video exclusive to the magazine.

The best part, in our opinion, is how starstruck everyone was over Oprah Winfrey and Anna Wintour.

"I just tripped right in front of Oprah and Anna, and I loved it. I thought it was awesome," said "Avatar" actress Zoe Saldana

"It was like Albert Brooks in 'Broadcast News,' " said Paul Rudd about meeting the big A and O. "I immediately started sweating."

Sarah Jessica Parker covers Vogue: movies, motherhood and the SJP brand [video]

Sarah jessica parker vogue cover may Sarah Jessica Parker brings her whimsical charm once again to Vogue, serving as May's cover girl in support of "Sex and the City 2."

Mario Testino shot the American beauty outside of New York City, styled by Vogue's Tonne Goodman.

Working mom would be an understatement the size of the "Sex" box office in the context of Parker, who's acting, consulting at design house Halston and raising three children with husband Matthew Broderick.

Son James Wilke, now 7, was joined by twin sisters Marion and Tabitha last June. As the baby girls approach a year, Parker reflected on the surrogacy process she and Broderick endured.

"All the stuff that matters is secretive and worrisome. You can’t talk about how you feel about the woman who’s carrying your children; you can only talk about it to your husband," she says, “and he just doesn’t want to talk about it as much as you do.”

Still she maintains the girls bring endless joy, and that the baby boom in the Broderick house is no accident ...
