Sara Gilbert has a new girlfriend, wishes she'd told you herself

Sara Gilbert has a new girlfriend -- singer-songwriter Linda Perry -- and she's flattered that people are interested, but certainly wishes we'd all found out when she'd done her hair and makeup first.

She and Perry, a member of 4 Non Blondes in the early '90s and who now writes for folks such as Pink and James Blunt, were photographed by paparazzi on a recent Sunday morning, and next thing Gilbert knew, her relationship status had been officially changed online. According to fellow "The Talk" panelist Aisha Tyler, it was not exactly what the actress would have wanted.

"It's weird," Gilbert said. After their morning outing, "I go online and it's on, like, CNN, and I'm flattered, you know, and I can't believe that anyone cares."

Despite her smile, however, and even though she said she expects in her current job to share personal details with the audience, "I kinda would rather do it on my terms" -- and here's where she got the laugh -- "in full hair and makeup."

Also, perhaps, not be photographed on a Sunday morning when she perhaps thought she could enjoy, as Sharon Osbourne put it, some "privacy," which out of her mouth rhymes with "give-a-see."

Gilbert and Allison Adler, who have two young children together, broke up in August after 10 years together; the two had gone public with their long-term relationship only a year earlier. Then the "Roseanne" veteran teared up a few months back when "The Talk" gang were chatting about marriage in September.

Gilbert, voice cracking, said on that that she wouldn't trade the time she'd had with Adler. "I think that's such a special time in my life. But then you see people in their 70s and you go like, 'How do people do it? How do they make it last?"

She may get to give it another shot.

Sara Gilbert teared up Friday talking about her relationship with Allison Adler

Sara Gilbert and Alison Adler were together for a decade before breaking up over the summer -- and if Gilbert's tears Friday on "The Talk" were any indication, she still needs some time until she's over it.

Gilbert choked up during a panel discussion about marriage, after mentioning that she hadn't been married, and now was no longer with the person she'd been in love with.

"I wouldn't trade that time, you know, I think that's such a special time in my life," she said, voice cracking. "But then you see people in their 70s and you go like, how do people do it? How do they make it last?"

Kris Jenner -- who had already cried happy tears herself talkiing about her 13-year marriage to the late Robert Kardashian, and her now 20-year marraige to Bruce Jenner -- tried to comfort her cohost by reminding Gilbert she still had the memories of all her experiences with Adler.

"We have beautiful children together," Gilbert acknowledged, "a lot of love for each other, and you do continue into the next chapter together in a different way."

Breaks your heart.

The former "Roseanne" actress speaks her piece starting just before the three-minute mark.

Melissa Gilbert has filed for divorce from Bruce Boxleitner, making the move to end their 16-year marriage a little more than five months after they announced their separation.

The petition was filed Monday in L.A. and gave the date of the actors' separation as January, the month of their 16th anniversary. The very common "irreconcilable differences" was cited, with Gilbert seeking spousal support and joint custody of their 15-year-old son, Michael Boxleitner.

"We have loved each other for a very long time," Gilbert said in March, "and we share four incredible sons together." In addition to their son together, Boxleitner, 61, and Gilbert, 47, have one son from her previous marriage and two from his.

Gilbert is perhaps best known for her work on "Little House on the Prairie." Boxleitner, seen reprising his 1982 "TRON" roles in December's "TRON: Legacy," starred with Kate Jackson on the "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" and was a regular on "Babylon 5."

In other Gilbert family news, Melissa's younger sister Sara Gilbert, 36, has split with Allison Adler, 47, her partner of 10 years.

"The Talk" host and her ex plan to share custody of their 6-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter, People said Wednesday.

Sara Gilbert has broken up with girlfriend Allison Adler just a year after going public about the relationship and her sexuality.

Gilbert, known for her role as Darlene Conner on "Roseanne," opened up about her 10-year relationship with Adler during the 2010 Television Critics Assn. summer press tour, when she was promoting her new CBS show "The Talk," which she cohosts with, among others, Sharon Osbourne (above).

"I've been acting my whole life," said Gilbert, 36, "and I've never really discussed my personal life."

She had been with Adler, 44, a writer-producer on "Glee," since 2001. Together they were raising two children: son Levi, 6, and daughter Sawyer, 4. The couple plan to split custody of the children, according to E! Online.

Gilbert does have a support system in this tough time. She and her sister, Melissa Gilbert, remain close. Gilbert appeared on "The Talk" with stories about her little sister growing up. (See video below.)

Sara Gilbert puts it out there: She's a lesbian

Sara-gilbert Sara Gilbert, who made a name for herself in Hollywood as daughter Darlene Conner on a decade's worth of "Roseanne," came out publicly about her partner and her sexuality Thursday at a panel discussion for her upcoming CBS show "The Talk."

At the Television Critics Assn. summer press tour in Beverly Hills, Gilbert spoke openly about raising a boy and a girl with her partner, TV producer Allison Adler (the kids were born in 2004 and 2007). She'll be discussing motherhood, parenting and more soon on "The Talk" with co-hosts Julie Chen, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini and Marissa Jaret Winokur.

Press materials for the show hadn't mentioned Adler in Gilbert's bio -- a decision the actress said was hers, not the network's, according to Entertainment Weekly.

"I've been acting my whole life, and I've never really discussed my personal life. This is a talk show," Gilbert said. "So obviously, I'm going to be discussing my life more, and I felt that the first place I wanted to do it wasn’t in a CBS press release.

"It just seemed impersonal, and I felt like I’d rather come in person and talk to you about all that stuff here.”
