PREACH IT! Celebrities, if you're not blogging your breakup, you are SO 2009

Etheridge-tammy Celebrities are all supposedly very private people. That’s what they love to tell us, anyway, in between interviews about where they like to have sex. Even so, public breakups are rare in Hollywood. While it’s considered more than OK to share the happy days of a relationship, airing the details of the bitter end is considered poor form. Or, rather, it was. Thanks, Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi. Way to keep it classy.

But, by focusing so much on the scorched-earth tactics of the onetime “winners” of "The Bachelor," we’re missing out on other fine contenders in the public-breakup department. Yes, there’s Mel Gibson, whose leaked abuses to baby mama Oksana Grigorieva fall far beyond the pale of the typical he said-she said. But there’s also Tammy Lynn Michaels, soon-to-be ex of singer Melissa Etheridge, who has taken to blogging about her breakup in free-form verse.

Sandra Bullock's divorce from Jesse James is final

Jesse-james-mug File this one under "Don't mess with Texas": Sandra Bullock's divorce from Jesse James is final, TMZ reports.

Unlike California, which has a six-month minimum wait from filed to farewell, Texas lets couples knock that business out in as few as 60 days, start to finish.

Bullock, who has a home in Austin, filed for divorce in Travis County on April 23, and, according to TMZ sources, the final papers were signed last week. James said recently that he's moving to Austin as well.

For the record, we're filing this one under "Don't mess with Sandra Bullock" as well.

Sandra Bullock surprises 'Nashville Rising' benefit concert crowd with her awesome musical skills

Sandra Bullock does seem to be getting back to normal — her normal joking self, that is, though she rolled it into the shape of a "musical contribution" Tuesday night at "Nashville Rising: A Benefit Concert for Flood Recovery."

She hit the stage with a guitar, and a mission to "bring the house down." Or maybe, given the extent of her musical skills, simply to bring onto the stage one of the night's hosts, Faith Hill

"I would like to introduce an amazing woman, an extraordinarily talented woman, a disgustingly beautiful woman," Bullock said after plucking out the opening notes of "Smoke on the Water," "and the woman that is one half of who made tonight possible, ladies and gentlemen."

"Nashville Rising," the brain child of Hill and her husband, Tim McGraw, raised about $2 million for relief organizations assisting with recovery from flooding that hit Tennessee in early May.

And for those too young to recognize what Bullock was noodling on the guitar, we present Deep Purple, live at Budokan, after the break (plus links to related posts on celebrity efforts to help with Tennessee flood relief).

Addressing Sandra Bullock's MTV Movie Awards dress

Bullock-hug-two-web Take our word for it -- making out with Scarlett Johansson wasn't the only thing that happened during Sandra Bullock's acceptance speech at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday.

One of our favorite moments was Betty White's mention of Bullock's black mini-dress with a plunging back.

"Honey, don't ever wear that dress backward," White cracked.

We got hold of designer Oday Shakar to hear his thoughts on the pearl-clutching from White.

"I think every gay designer's dream is to have Betty White crack a joke about their clothes!" Shakar said. "I thought she was very funny, and right on."

The sparkly black confection of a dress was customized for Bullock, her stylist requesting a longer hem and some sheer addition to the sleeves to pair with nude Christian Louboutin pumps. Special attention had to be paid, considering the importance of the comeback dress.

And given White's analysis, what would the designer whip up for the 88-year-old?

After smooching ScarJo and setting a few things straight, Sandra Bullock would like to go back to normal now

Talk about a stage full of kissable people. How could Sandra Bullock pick just one?

Mtv-scarjo-web Bullock, accepting the Generation Award on Sunday night at the MTV Movie Awards, took time to set a few things straight, to sort of apologize to Bradley Cooper for "All About Steve," to covet the life of Betty White and to plant a big wet one on Scarlett Johansson.

We're not sure which we enjoyed most. (OK, that's a total and complete lie; it was the ScarJo part, who are we kidding -- but you can see it all in the video above. Betty's particularly adorable as well.)

Things Bullock set straight, along with the facts that she loves what she does, and she's not going anywhere:

  • She's not dead.
  • She's not the only person who has cellulite.
  • "Whoever established the high road and how high it was gonna to be should be fired."
  • And she's "never gone 14 days without showering while chain-smoking while crying on the shoulder of my sweet Aunt Luddy. Because I shower twice a day, I don't smoke, and sweet Aunt Luddy died a year ago, though I know she's really happy just to have been mentioned."

"Now that we've done that," she said, before asking that we also think tonight of those affected by the oil spill in the gulf, "can we please go back to normal?"

Sure thing, Sandy. Though no promises on the showering thing -- 'cause you did say "normal."

Sandra Bullock surfaces at Spike TV's Guys Choice awards

Don't call it a comeback -- Sandra Bullock showed up at Spike TV's Guys Choice awards on Saturday night to show off a tight black dress and poke fun at her personal life.

The 45-year-old box-office darling hit the ceremony in Los Angeles to accept the Troops Choice award for entertainer of the year, voted on by members of the American military worldwide, and got an extended standing ovation as she appeared on stage with representatives of the Army, Marine Corps and the Coast Guard. [Updated at 2:17 p.m.: See the video of her appearance over at Show Tracker.]

"Let's be honest here, just for a moment. We're all going to be honest, right?" Bullock asked the crowd. "Did I win this for being entertainer of the year, or did I win this because of the spectacular I.E.D. explosion that became my personal life?"

But only in Hollywood do improvised explosive devices come with tattoos and text messages -- the self-deprecating Bullock also made a seriously classy move in acknowledging ...

'Nightline'? Whatever. Sandra Bullock to attend MTV Movie Awards

Sandra_bullock Jesse James might not want his MTV.

People.com is reporting that Sandra Bullock will attend the MTV Movie Awards, set to take place on June 6 in Universal City, where she’ll receive the MTV Generation Award “for her riveting and diverse contributions to the film industry.”

Maybe RPattz and Zac Efron will take her mind off things?

The news comes just a day after James’ appeared on “Nightline” in an interview during which he attributed his cheating ways to the abuse he suffered as a child. According to ABC News, almost 7 million viewers tuned in to watch the program (that's compared with 3.7 million for Jay Leno and 3.45 million for David Letterman).

Bullock, 45, has kept a relatively low profile lately since announcing to the world she had adopted a son, Louis.

Jesse James on his affairs: 'It was me trying to self-sabotage my life'

It finally happened. The highly anticipated -- or highly despised, for some -- episode of "Nightline" featuring Jesse James aired Tuesday night. (Seriously, has there been this much hype surrounding a "Nightline" episode in recent memory?)

In it, James said he was the victim of abuse as a child and attributed the shame he felt from that to be the driving force that led him to cheat on future ex-wife Sandra Bullock

"I was a terrorized kid," James, 41, said about the abuse he received from his father. "I was petrified of my dad.… It wasn't so much getting the ... beat out of me or getting my arm broken or getting kicked or whatever or punched, it was the in-between time. It was the fear of that happening again."

James said the abuse memories returned during his stint in rehab.

“My whole childhood, I never had a chance to be a kid.… I was always scared."

In an e-mail to ABC News, Larry James said his son's allegations of abuse were not true.

Jesse James tells 'Nightline': 'I think I wanted to get caught'

You say you're slightly interested in hearing what Jesse James has to say for himself, but not enough to stay up past 11:35 p.m.? (Hey, there's no judging here.)

As we told you last week, James will break his silence for the first time since his marriage to Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock became tabloid fodder in an interview airing Tuesday on ABC's "Nightline."

"Nightline's" Vicki Mabrey appeared on "Good Morning America" Monday morning and revealed more footage from her much talked about interview with Bullock’s soon-to-be-ex-husband.

In the preview, James says he still has feelings for the actress: “I still really love her and care about her.”  And he says he's not surprised his indiscretions became public: “I knew I would get caught eventually and I think I wanted to get caught.”

Check it out for yourself:

Hmmm. What do you think of the clip?  Will you tune in Tuesday? Let us know what you think in the comments.

PREACH IT! Jesse James takes his image to the chop shop

Here it comes. We’re gonna say it. Nothing you can do to stop us. Wait for it.

Jesse James strikes again!

Look, Preach It! has written about Jesse James for months now, and we’ve never once gotten to say "Jesse James strikes again" -- and why the heck else would we have gotten into the journalism business to begin with?

Besides, James really has struck again, this time in a brand-new interview coming up via ABC. In a promo for the interview, released Friday, Vicki Mabrey is seen pummeling James with questions about how, in so many words, could one dude be the embodiment of so much skeez.

One of his responses: “I took a pretty amazing life and marriage and threw it away.” In another shot, James is seen stepping away from the set, apparently in tears, saying, “Let me take a break for a second.”

The interview is clearly an attempt to rehabilitate James’ reality television career, or at least ...
