Chris Brown passes a milestone, asks court to lift protective order

Chris Brown asks court to lift protective order regarding Rihanna

Chris Brown's life got a whole lot easier Friday, as a judge congratulated the R&B singer on finishing a domestic violence education program -- a milestone that means he will no longer have to be present in court for progress hearings every three months.

Brown finished the 52-week course in December, proudly posting his certificate online. He was sentenced to five years' probation and 180 days of community service, plus the class, after pleading guilty in August 2009 to the felony assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna after a party the night before the Grammy Awards in February 2009.

A five-year protective order requiring Brown to stay 50 yards away from Rihanna, or 10 yards if they were both at the same industry function (say, on the Grammys red carpet), was also put in place.

Given Brown's progress and no incidents related to the two crossing paths, Judge Patricia Schnegg on Friday seemed inclined to change it to a "level one, do not annoy" order, but acting in what she called "an abundance of caution," she said she'd consider the change after Rihanna's attorney was consulted. Rihanna had said previously through her attorney that the order wasn't necessary.

Rihanna and Dodgers' Matt Kemp call it quits, split

Rihanna-matt-kemp Rihanna and Matt Kemp have reportedly broken up -- ending a relationship that the singer often insisted was just a fun thing, and allowing the Dodgers faithful to indulge in some wishful thinking that the center fielder's performance might improve next season without RiRi as a distraction.

The couple, who were together for almost a year, called it quits in recent weeks due to geographical incompatibility and because, well, she "basically was just over it," a source told Us Magazine, which first reported the news.

"He just can't keep up with her crazy travel schedule," said the source, adding that Kemp "wants something more normal."

Well, Rihanna was too busy to make it to BFF Katy Perry's India wedding to Russell Brand in October. How much room could there be for someone she was just "having fun" with?

And honestly, it's a nice breather from all those celebs getting engaged in recent days. Two more back on the market for the rest of us ...

Chris Brown marks a year of good behavior on probation

Chris-brown-court

Was it really a year ago that Chris Brown had his first probation hearing, after pleading guilty in August 2009 to felony assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna?

Why yes it was! And Brown got another positive report from Judge Patricia Schnegg just a day shy of the one-year anniversary of his first probation progress report with her.

"Out of thousands of probationers, no one has done a better or more consistent job than you have, and I really want to commend you for taking responsibility and for actually working diligently to complete all the things the court has required of you," Schnegg told Brown during a brief hearing Thursday in downtown L.A.

The R&B singer has gotten nothing but kudos from the court since he was sentenced in August 2009 to five years' probation and 180 days of community labor, which he's doing in his home state of Virginia. Brown assaulted Rihanna on Feb. 8, 2009, the night before the Grammy Awards. He checked in with the judge in February, May and August as well.

PREACH IT! Pictures of a bruised Rihanna: Still news?

Rihanna-miu-miu When it comes to celebrity gossip, stories never really die. Just ask Graydon Carter, who keeps putting old dead people on the covers of his magazine. (Now, with Never Before Seen Photos of That Time When Hepburn Stood Next to Swifty Lazar!)

Take the case of Rihanna, who more than a year ago suffered assault via dashboard, care of now ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. That attack has been settled -- Brown has offered at least half a dozen non-apologies, and Rihanna has changed her hair -- but somehow, the story lives on. Why? Not because of any legitimate need to know, but because there are, apparently, new photos.

Well, OK, they're old photos, but no one has seen them, and that makes them news.

How do we even know there are photos? Because, per Radar Online, someone is shopping them around, of course. The photos were taken while Rihanna was still in the hospital and reportedly show a rainbow of cuts and bruises.

So far, no news outlet has agreed to buy or display the photos, but we're sure taking bets on who will stoop that low.

Chris Brown creepy-tweets. Was Rihanna on his mind?

Rihanna's wax double takes the stage in Washington, D.C.

Rihanna-wax-figure Rihanna showed up in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday in the form of a wax double installed at the Madame Tussauds museum in the district.

The picture at right? That's wax Rihanna, hanging out in New York last week.

She wasn't on hand for the reveal, so sorry, no cool shot of the singer posing with herself -- but she did give the statue her smooch of approval ahead of time.

In international wax figure news -- yes, there is such a thing -- doubles of actors Andy Lau and Li Bingbing were unveiled Wednesday in Hong Kong. On Lau's extensive resume: "House of Flying Daggers."

Check out those pictures after the break, and visit previous doppelganger posts featuring Jane Lynch, Helen Mirren and Kim Kardashian.

Chris Brown gets 'good job' from probation-status judge

Chris-brown Another hearing, another good report for Chris Brown.

The "Takers" star is doing a "great job," Judge Patricia Schnegg said, with completing terms of the five-year probation that was handed down after he pleaded guilty to felony assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna in June 2009.

The 21-year-old appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday with his lawyer, Mark Geragos, but did not speak.

Next opportunity for another gold star? Breezy's next status check is scheduled for Nov. 18.

Rihanna defends la grammaire française used in new tattoo

Rihanna-tattoo

Rihanna-tattoo-detail Rihanna expected people would call her out on the content of her new rebelle fleur neck tattoo, OK Magazine says. Indeed, Gawker did just that, pointing out that in French, the adjective typically follows the noun.

In a text message to her tattoo artist that was leaked to OK, the singer allegedly wrote, "rebelle fleur translates to rebel flower, NOT rebelious flower, its 2 nouns so in that case fleur does not HAVE to be first! Fyi, cuz they will ask." (Rihanna, incidentally, is from Barbados, where the official language is English, with a local variation known as Bajan.)

We have to say, despite RiRi's explanation, and unfortunately having been trained in Spanish instead of French, we're still confused -- though an in-house Ministry source explains that rebelle can ...

Maxim's Hot 100 list: Katy Perry is tops, but Heidi Montag flops

Katy-perry-web Katy Perry rocketed up Maxim's Hot 100 list this year, jumping to No. 1 after buzzing around at No. 15 in 2009.

What made her so much hotter this year -- the Russell Brand engagement? The ProActiv acne treatment commercials? After getting hooked on 2008's "I Kissed a Girl," Maxim seems to like Perry's "California Gurls" single for 2010, and has high hopes for a super summer backed by tunes from her upcoming album.

Girl-next-door Perry didn't make the cover, however. That hotness was delivered by Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks.

Rihanna moved up a spot this year to No. 6, up from No. 8 in 2009 and No. 15 in 2008 -- maybe all those photo shoots helped? Megan Fox, meanwhile, fell to No. 5 from No. 2 in 2009. (Yeah, the unfunny school budget cuts video took the edge off for us too.)

After popping onto the list at No. 100 in 2008 and falling off it last year, Tila Tequila thankfully remains un-Hot in Maxim's eyes. The mag appears unimpressed with Heidi Montag as well -- she made the list in 2008 and 2009, but fell off this year, possibly due to the weight of her massive new breast implants.

How soon until hubby Spencer Pratt lovingly tweets his outrage? We're betting soon, because "The Hills" costar Audrina Patridge -- who didn't even make the cover of People -- came in 12th.

Rihanna in and out of Swiss emergency room

Rihanna-dodgers Rihanna did indeed visit an emergency room in Switzerland late Monday night, but that's pretty much where any drama ended.

The singer, who played a concert in Zurich on Monday, had an injured rib and swung by the ER when she got off work to make sure it wasn't serious, her rep told E! Online

Want proof she's doing OK? Perhaps pictures from her performance Tuesday night in France will suffice.

PREACH IT! Rihanna's haircut of the undead

Riri-hedgehog The reviews are in on Rihanna’s latest haircut, the one RiRi debuted a couple of weeks back at the Kids' Choice Awards -- and it’s a hit! Long front bangs, short in the back, a little spiky on one side, couple of different hues -- what’s not to love?

"The singer was previously working a full-fringed bowl-style cut, which she's moved on to something slightly softer," InStyle noted recently, "though there's still a funky shaved bit on the left side for that bit of Rihanna edge."

"A double-your-pleasure hairstyle," Bellasugar raved.

Well played, Rihanna. But wait. Hold on a minute. That haircut. It’s starting to look all kids of familiar.

Long front bangs. Short in the back. A few spiky bits. Couple of different hues.

No. No! It cannot be! But yes! It is! Rihanna, get that hair off of your head right now! It’s supposed to be dead! It’s ... it’s ...

The Hedgehog. Yes, that Hedgehog, the dreaded look that Kate Gosselin championed, only to abandon in favor of longer locks and a second shot at fame on "Dancing With the Stars."

Nobody liked the Hedgehog when it lived on Kate's head. Nobody.

Which proves only one point -- and we’re not sure which one. When it comes to fashion, either Kate Gosselin can do no right, or Rihanna can do no wrong.
